2024-2025 College Basketball General Discussion

I have to say, I thought the SEC in general was doing tremendously well in the offseason in the basketball portal, and those additions (as well as gigantic ones from years past like Johni Broome, Mark Sears & Walter Clayton) have clearly paid off. It was a little disappointing to me that OSU didn't nab a little bit better talent in the portal - out of 4 additions from the portal, only 1 (Meechie, who's currently not playing) actually averaged double-digit points last season. The one that bugged me the most was Trey Townsend, he really could have helped this OSU team & been a focal point, but went to Arizona to be a role player. If you look at the top players on each team in the SEC, you'll find a lot of transfers amongst their top players, and most of them did very well at their prior schools. Some of the top SEC programs have 4 or more players who averaged double-digit points elsewhere, which drives home the point that the easiest path to successful team building now is to find guys who are stars at lower level programs and get them through the portal. With the frequency of prep prospects not panning out to be big time college players, I don't know why you wouldn't just try and build through the portal nowadays.
