2024-2025 College Basketball General Discussion

God you are such a prisoner of the moment. Bama hasn't been shit for years now suddenly they are good clearly they care more? Meanwhile Florida, Auburn, Tennessee care so much about football they have all been pretty shit for over a decade.
I mean…that kind of says what Ohio State could do too.

Literally half the SEC schools are lapping Ohio State. Some of them very recently, while OSU is stuck in neutral (maybe even reverse). It just takes a good hire and actually trying.

I’m a huge huge Ohio State basketball fan. I’m tired of the current state. I want better.

Yes they do care more. Hiring an assistant of a failed program shows you don’t care. Is that too difficult to understand?
I think it's reasonable to have given Diebler a chance. There's no guarantee they actually would have hired someone better & Diebler did show promise how he handled the team at the end of 2024. This season was a tough situation considering he was like 2 steps above building a team from scratch, and one of his key additions left the team after 10 games. The main failing at OSU in recent years has been recruiting & they badly need to change how they make personnel evaluations & distribute NIL funds. They had the talent to be a tourney team in 2024, but Holtmann. Now this year I would say the results were commensurate with the talent. They just need to find a little bit better talent for the starting 5 (that will actually stick with the team).

I will say I've seen the SEC taking advantage of the portal by sniping stars at mid-major schools (many with multiple years of eligibility left) & I don't see the B1G doing it even half as much, at least not yet. OSU (and other B1G programs) would do well to try and take a page out of the SEC playbook in that regard.

Yep, That is exactly what we need to do. Go after guys who have had actual production at mid major/lower level schools. These former 5* types who still only get some hype because of their former HS recruiting rankings from major programs that aren't sad to see them leave are that for a reason.

Exactly. The "football school" excuse is just making excuses for the Athletic Departments laziness/incompetence.

I'm not saying we have to constantly be a top 5-10 team year after year but there's no reason we shouldn't be able to scoop up a capable coach who can at least get us into the tournament annually.

It's not happening though anytime soon. Bjork has already made it clear that as long as they aren't completely bottom of the barrel awful that "expectations are being met" AKA he's going to coast off the success of the football team and not take the effort to improve the hoops program to a decent level.
