2023 NCAA Tournament and Bracket Discussion

UMBC erupts after Fairleigh Dickinson’s March Madness 2023 stunner: ‘Have a friend now!’

Fairleigh Dickinson had plenty of supporters on social media as it produced an upset of No. 1 seed Purdue in the NCAA Tournament, and the school whose record it matched may have been the most vocal.

UMBC, which defeated top-seeded Virginia as a No. 16 seed five years ago, sent a barrage of tweets from its official athletic department account following FDU’s 63-58 victory.

“WE HAVE A FRIEND NOW,” UMBC tweeted at 9:15 p.m., a few minutes after Fairleigh Dickinson withstood any final comeback attempt from the Boilermakers.

UMBC even sent out a push for followers to make a trip to Columbus ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson’s next game — a matchup with Florida Atlantic — in the Round of 32 Sunday.

A Purdue upset loss, who could have seen this coming?

This is me to my Indy friends group after they went 0-2 to their rival Indiana on Feb 25.

A month later and funny enough they actually had a potential FAU matchup

I had them losing to FAU round 2 because I had to back up my prediction…but couldn’t even get that far.

From 2022 tourney thread…

This was Purdue’s 4th loss to an NCAA double-digit seed since 2011.

2011 - as a #3, to #11 VCU

2016 - as a #5, to #12 Ark-Little Rock

2021 - as a #4, to #13 North Texas

2022 - as a #3, to #15 St. Peter’s Peacocks

Remarkable. Almost fireable? I know you can’t but he’s had some really really good teams. Painful losses for them.

2011 VCU also beat #1 seed Kansas & made the Final Four ... I don't see any real shame in that loss. But the others show a troubling trend.
