2023-2024 Ohio State Men's Basketball (apathy, depression, hope?)

College basketball's way-too-early top 25 for 2024

Ohio State isn't in the top 25

Ohio State — Brice Sensabaugh kept the door ever so slightly ajar for returning, and while he’s likely gone, the Buckeyes have a nice combination of young talent and a top 10 recruiting class. A bounce-back season could be in the cards for Chris Holtmann’s crew.

Pretty good transfer get by Holtmann. Can be a serviceable player. Doesn’t increase the teams quickness or athleticism but he can find a role. Liken him to Sueing at this point.

Guessing he just wants to play on a winner for once so he’ll be driven and team first. I’ll take it.

With the add of Bonner, he slots in as the #3 guard and top backup for the 1-2 spots behind Thornton and Chatman. Clearly Key and Okpara will man the 5. I would guess for now Gayle and Middleton will rotate at the 3, and Battle and Royal at the 4. We shall see if they add anyone else.

The Buckeyes will take on West Virginia next season in a matchup that will take place on Dec. 30 in Cleveland. A contract has not been finalized with a venue as of yet, but Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse could be a likely host site.

Evan Mahaffey, a reserve wing transfer from PSU who averaged 2 ppg last season, will likely be the final addition to the OSU roster. He seems to be as close to a carbon copy of Gene Brown as you can find. Role player who will defend and get the occasional bucket.

Once again I ask... But why? Holtmann you just had your highest recruiting class ever. Why are you taking a freshman who was a 3 star who scored 2 PPG as a transfer?

Holtmann clearly believes in using all his scholarships, apparently as a sort of insurance in case of injuries, foul trouble, etc. It's a concern that he's got a team that has only a few guys that you know to be even average college scorers. Looking like another average type of season, unfortunately. The freshman class nationally is not viewed as a strong one, but once again the freshmen will be the key to the team having any upside.

Give the scholly to a walkon and get someone in the next class if it comes to that though. I have no idea what he's doing with the last 2 transfers...
