2023-2024 Ohio State Men's Basketball (apathy, depression, hope?)

Evan Mahaffey, a reserve wing transfer from PSU who averaged 2 ppg last season, will likely be the final addition to the OSU roster. He seems to be as close to a carbon copy of Gene Brown as you can find. Role player who will defend and get the occasional bucket.

Whoever the coach is next year I just hope his teams have a basketball identity. Either we play fast and bomb 3's and try to outscore people, or we play play smart and tough defense, or whatever. Holtmann's teams have no identity (and also are not good.)
...and the sad thing is that he has some impressive talent taking the floor for him.

Ohio State adds Emerald Coast Classic to future hoops schedule

Ohio State is already beefing up a future nonconference hoops slate.

According to Fanduel, the Buckeyes hoops program will participate in the 2023 Emerald Coast Classic next November, joining Alabama and Oregon. The fourth program hasn’t been named yet, but it figures to be another college basketball heavyweight to pair with the other three programs.

Ohio State’s men’s basketball team will spend its 2023 Thanksgiving in the Sunshine State.

The Buckeyes will participate in the Emerald Coast Classic held annually on the campus of Northwest Florida State College. The news, initially reported by CBS Sports and confirmed by The Dispatch, will see Ohio State head to Niceville for its second Florida trip in three years.

Pagobuckeyes: I believe Ohio State’s basketball team needs two really good transfers to be competitive next year. Your thoughts and comments ?

Helwagen: Agree 100 percent. I think the point guard spot will be good with Bruce Thornton and Taison Chatman. I think the wing will be good with Devin Royal and Scotty Middleton and center will be good with Zed Key, Felix Okpara and Austin Parks.

The two spots they need help are at shooting guard with somebody who can make threes and also defend. And at power forward. I maintain what they don't have and have not had is a guy like Coleman Hawkins. A 6-9 guy who is athletic, can defend, can rebound and step out and hit threes.

No more one trick pony guys who can only shoot threes or can only defend. Need Power Five starters like Illinois got who can do both -- score, defend and rebound (I know that's three things LOL).

2023-24 possible roster....

Zed
Eugene
Kalen
Bruce

Roddy
Felix
Bowen
Chatman
Middleton
Royal
Parks

a lot of talent there
I definitely feel more optimistic about next season after the past couple of weeks. Bruce is a stud. Roddy and Felix showed flashes of potential. Chatman, Middleton and Royal should all be able to come in and be solid rotation players at least. Need Zed to get healthy and return to form. Also might need some experience and skill at SG - just don't know how reliable the freshmen will be shooting 3s, and usually that's not an area of strength. If Royal and Middleton come in and play well - or at least one does and Gayle takes a step forward - they should be a top-25 team again.
