They had the tsun version of the other B1G schools when they finally have a championship caliber team made up of a bunch of upperclassmen. Just like Iowa/Wisconsin/etc they don't recruit well enough to just plug in the next wave of NFL guys and go 10-2 the year after a championship team.

Jimmy had what remains of the #18, #8, #10, #13 recruiting classes and the #9 class coming in as true freshmen this year in his hand if he didn't pull the NFL stunt.

They spent the entire offseason shouting that they couldn't compete in that being above average was enough.

I'm not sure any of this refutes their previous position.
