And my post will show why we're fans and not the coaches, but to me it seems CJ is really confused and doesn't read what's in front of him before the snap. Prime example is the last play of the 2nd half where there is no scenario that CJ double pumps, gets sacked, and fumbles... play call has to be back shoulder throw or fade immediately and if you miss, take the FG. If the coaches didn't give that clear instruction, that's on them. If not it's on CJ.

Point is I don't know if CJ is ready for pseudo running our offense, he doesn't look like Peyton or Brady out there understanding stuff on the fly. Extreme examples, I know nobody is, but I'm just not confident in his pre-snap diagnoses when he changes up the call constantly, whereas when he rips it on the play called more than 2 yards down field he seems to be on point. That may be on the coaches for all I know, but sometimes we just look uncomfortable in our own skin when we don't just call the play and run it.

This is an impressively bad take.

OSU wants CJ and the offense to EXECUTE the play that’s called. CJ and really any Day QB hasn’t had the keys to the offense like most elite QBs. Wilson and Day use the pre snap reads with the simulated snap then they call a play that they want executed. He even said that he told CJ to read the option instead of just running Williams. I’m not judging but it seems Day trusts the play calls from the staff over giving his QBs more leeway.

CJ wasn't as bad as the stats say. They had 8 drops including one sure TD. That's pretty good in the hurricane we played in today. Other throws were quite off for sure but those deep balls were to be expected. The play calling goes hand in hand with the execution. At times Day and Wilson look absolute genius and other times WTF?!?! When we're rolling it's effortless and complete opposite at others.

Dont know whats wrong with Henderson but it would be freaking nice if we could have two healthy running backs to lean on and maybe work the running game. The zone plays have been discussed already which is a spread the D out kind of play instead of the ISO type plays we ran on the goal line and had a massive hole to run through. We get stuck in certain formations and give away our intentions when we motion or change personnel. Thats where they need to fix the Offense. When the Defense knows what we're going to do it's damn hard to execute no matter the skill level of the athletes.

9 games in and I'm still unsure of what the '22 offensive endgame is. We've seen a lot of Day/Wilson staples mixed with more jet sweeps, bubble screens, and a shotgun toss packaged with PA. But ever since MSU it hasn't felt cohesive and little rhythm has gotten established outside of the 2nd half of the 4th quarter against PSU.

I want to think the running game comes together with a lot more end arounds, gap runs and a few QB keepers to keep teams off balance. But they seem incredibly hesitant to use gap runs even as teams are slanting and aggressively attacking zone runs.

We've seen more in the passing game, but PSU was surprisingly sparse and I'm still unsure if they've put all their eggs in the JSN coming back basket with plays/formations we haven't seen, or if this is mostly what they are.

To be clear, what they've shown is more than enough to beat most teams, but the execution and timing of playcalls has really hampered them in the last 3 weeks. Most of the pieces are there, but its getting late in the season to still be searching for an effective identity.

If someone is going to be hurt every game they need to trust Hayden to take some of the load. He looks like he has more burst then Henderson this year probably cause he's healthy

I would normally take a pass, but what part was off? CJ is having issues running our offense and communicating it to others. That was on clear display today. He has great talent but needs to be a better field commander. Not exactly a fresh take there.
They did mention during the game that CJ and the line were having communication issues due to the wind. Sometimes you just need to get up and run the play that was called. Even going under center on a day like yesterday. Boy some tempo would have been nice as well.

I know it was a shit weather game and we needed to be careful of turning the ball over, but damn it would be nice to have played Hayden and/or Traynum to get someone in that just hits the hole and doesn’t dance.

I know the coaches know more about football than I do, but I often wonder what the offensive game plan is from week to week. Day knew the weather was going to suck, yet here he was trying to throw the ball 30 yards down field. That’s just throwing plays away and shit that I would expect from a team hoping for a break.

NW has arguably one of the worst defenses in the country and yet we don’t have plays to just overpower them. I mean a little misdirection with a quick throw back would have been nice.

I trust day as a play caller and I think they are going vanilla and putting tendencies on tape for a reason. Play book is closed and they treat these games like scrimmages. Even Penn state, if I could see the middle of the field was open all day then Wilson sure as hell could, and when they needed a score they just used the middle. Run out of the pistol every time? That’s stupid. Throw a bubble from trips almost every time? Slant and zone block over and over when it’s not working, but never do a gap scheme until you need to?

Feels like 2018 team when they went bland all year (and got caught sleeping) and then opened the play book on thanksgiving.

Georgia is doing the same thing, sleepwalk between the big games and then Bam. We will see come Nov 26 if I’m right or wrong here.

Well hopefully the staff learned that scUM is not one of the sleepwalk games. Last year they pointed everything at the CFP and got blindsided by Hutchinson and Company.

He’s going to leave as the statistically greatest QB in school history, will win the heisman if we beat ttun and win the Big10, and has lead CFB in QBR with two completely different set of receivers. Everyone criticizing him doesn’t seem to remember watching any of our QBs before Troy Smith. It’s just like all the complaining about Day as a play caller. It’s completely backward. This fan base’s requirement of perfection and nothing less is comical.

I kind of agree but this quote rings true “people who live in the past are cowards and losers”. Day is not Cooper is not a winning legacy.

He's a great QB, but the communication with his offense at the line leaves something to be desired, as well as game clock awareness. Arm talent and accuracy are remarkable and thankfully the critique I made is something that should be easily fixed. Need to cut that stuff out by The Game or it's going to get us in trouble.
