2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

I love the fact that fans are using hollowed out binoculars to sneak alcohol into the venues. That is going to the extremes.

There were rumors of that in 98 as well (denied by their coach, actually a great article about that game on ESPN today)

It was.

And as much as the Iran angle was interesting (though I feel like Iran's motivations will be a little different this time around), I couldn't help but think given the sometimes unhinged criticisms of Berhalter and the way he became the head guy, what the attitude toward Sampson would be in todays environment.

(Note, there are plenty of good reasons to be critical of Berhalter, but woo wee)

Look, I'm an England supporter, but after seeing yesterday's press conference with Berhalter and Adams and the insane questions they had to face from Iranian reporters (Iran state media), I hope the U.S. wins Eight-Nil.

The moderator didn't step in and allowed the press conference to go off rails.

Iran reporters were asking about Navy ships near Iran and U.S. inflation (to a soccer coach).

See, this is why no one will ever give me a job with any kind of real exposure to important things, I would have been like, "Well, I mean its against policy to discuss the movements of Naval Assets anywhere, especially Ballistic Missile Submarines, of which there are none near Iran... as far as you know"

Berhalter was like, "Um, I'm just the United States soccer coach" when asked why he (the soccer coach) hasn't asked the U.S. Government to move a Navy warship from the Persian Gulf.

So what drama are we looking at for the 3rd group of games in each group? From what I can tell.....outside of the obvious US win or go home:

Group C:
LOL Mexico

Group D:
Denmark could go home, but probably not.

Group E:
Germany could go home, but most likely not.

Group F:
Belgium v Croatia should be intense. Will Belgium go home?

Group G:
:bored:

Group H:
Uruguay better wake up

I think Denmark is in a good amount of hot water...

Belgium is uninspired and needs an outright win against a veteran Croatia group. Not optimal.

Germany needs to wake the fuck up as well. Curious to see if they leave some of those guys that bailed them out in the starting XI

Belgium/Croatia is the one for me...either of those teams not making it to the KOs would be a colossal failure.
