2021 NCAA Tournament, Brackets and games

I like Ohio to upset Virginia. A lot working against the Cavaliers, and the Bobcats have some good players, or at least one really good player and sometimes that's all you need to score an upset.

Gotta watch out for Winthrop as well. Nova is going nowhere so might as well risk it and pick the upset against a team that is trending down.

I do like UNC Greensboro, at least ATS-wise.

I like the draw too. I think Baylor is the weakest team of the 4 #1s.
Nah. UM for sure is the #1 in worst position. Texas is most likely gonna take that region. I am going to give Baylor the benefit of the doubt and say they will make the F4, but certainly their recent performances have me doubting that they are the super elite team I thought they were.

I think Winthrop beats Villanova as well, especially since Villanova has at least one crucial player hurt. Colin Gillespie (Villanova PG) tore his MCL against Creighton right before the BE Tournament, and is out for the season.

NCAA tournament would swap schedule if BYU Cougars reach Sweet 16

In 2003, the NCAA tournament selection committee erroneously scheduled BYU to potentially play a Sunday game in the second weekend, timing that violated the Mormon school's policy that prohibits competition on Sundays.

At the time, the message from the committee was that it would not happen again.

On Sunday, however, the committee put itself in the same bind when it placed BYU in the 2021 NCAA tournament's East Region in a bracket that, as presently arranged, would position the Cougars to play a Sweet 16 game on March 28, a Sunday.

The NCAA has announced a contingency plan, however, that would swap the East and Midwest regions' playing dates if the Cougars win two games and make the Sweet 16, which the team last reached in 2011.

The move would mean the East teams, currently scheduled to play their Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games on March 28 and March 30, a Sunday and a Tuesday, would swap with the Midwest Region, which has games scheduled for March 27 and March 29, Saturday and Monday. If BYU reaches the Sweet 16, the East's games would move to those dates to accommodate the Cougars -- a move that would reduce the region's days of rest between games to four -- and the Midwest would play the Sunday-Tuesday stretch, allowing those teams to gain an additional day of rest between games (six).

"That contingency will only be utilized in the event that BYU were to advance to the Sweet 16," Dan Gavitt, the NCAA's men's basketball vice president, said on NCAA.com. "If they do not, then there would be no change to dates for any teams for regionals."

Vaccinated Loyola-Chicago chaplain Sister Jean to attend NCAA tournament

Sister Jean is headed back to March Madness.

Loyola-Chicago confirmed Tuesday that Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, the 101-year-old chaplain for the school's basketball team, will be in attendance Friday when the Ramblers open the NCAA tournament against Georgia Tech in Indianapolis. The Ramblers won the Missouri Valley Conference championship and are the No. 8 seed in the Midwest region.

Sister Jean, who became an international celebrity during Loyola-Chicago's run to the Final Four in 2018, has not attended games since the coronavirus pandemic began. She delivered pregame prayers virtually throughout the season but remained in a senior independent living apartment in downtown Chicago.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Sister Jean has been lobbying school officials to allow her to travel to Indianapolis. She has received a vaccine for COVID-19, but the school had other concerns about safety.

"They said there's restrictions," Sister Jean recently told the Tribune. "You can't run down on the court. You can't talk to the young men. I said, 'I'm not going to run down on the court, and I'm not going to cause any disturbance.' I said, 'I won't do things I'm not supposed to.'"

If BYU reaches the sweet 16 just tell them to put on some magic underwear and play the damn game. Otherwise, they can forfeit and go home. Problem solved.
