2021 College Football Polls

On the other hand, it’s nice to not see Clemson and aTm in the top 25 of the AP poll.

There are however, teams whose rankings reflect being given credit for beating a highly ranked team, even though that team is now out of the rankings entirely

Such is the case every year. It will happen as long as college football is a thing

Georgia is now #1 in the Coaches poll, Bama dropped to #5, ahead of tOSU, TTUN, Penn St, and Sparty, who is 9th.

If the AP has 5 B1G teams in the top-10, that will be a first for the conference.

Assuming the AP isn’t crazy, it will be the first AP #1 for UGA since the preseason poll in 2008, and before that, December of 1982, Herschel’s Heisman year.

Congrats, @BigWoof31, I hope you run the table and meet tOSU in the playoffs, it will be a worthy challenge for the tOSU offense and the Dawgs defense.

Some pretty big names lurking just below UC on that list.

As the season wears on, they will all play high profile games against highly ranked opponents.

UC's early season win against ND will continue to fade from memory.

Good chance ND drops another too, while they flipflop between QBs.
If VTech's QB doesn't get injured on a roughing-the-passer and lose his throwing shoulder, they walk away with that game.

Which is one of the reasons I was rooting for VA Tech last night. The other reason is, well, ND. That is a reason unto itself. The only time I root for ND is if it would in some way help tOSU. And then I feel dirty and have to take a shower or 2.

Hey buckeye bros - are you guys actively rooting for Oregon to win, because it makes your one loss look better or hoping they fall off so they don’t edge you out of a playoff spot if you are both one loss conference champs?

I’m being serious. This is not a trolling post.

We're already ranked ahead of them and we have more ranked opponents left. The only help they can provide now is the marginal SOS bump by winning out.

Some might point out that the polls aren't used by the CFP committee. My response is that they aren't used officially, but if you look at their rankings over the years, it is difficult to support the idea that the committee doesn't look at the polls.

Either way really. Not all that concerned with them or the CFP at this point.

The tough half of the schedule has yet to be played so if OSU wins out, they should be fine. If they stumble anywhere in the back half of the schedule it won't completely shock me and then CFP conversations are pointless.

I'd rather have them lose 1 more and put a nail in that coffin.
I think the narrative around team already covers the 1 score loss. Young team, defense not playing well, QB was banged up, etc. ... assuming we get through the rest of the season, those concerns will all be put to rest.
So it helps us more to just put the PAC out of the discussion by having Oregon lose a 2nd game.
