In the 1994 Orange Bowl, #2 Nebraska lost a truly heartbreaking game to #1 Florida State by the score of 18 to 16. With just 21 seconds left in the game, Nebraska gave up the go-ahead FG. After getting the ball back, the Huskers somehow managed to get into field goal range themselves, but their 45-yard game-winning attempt just missed wide left.
After that almost-magical 1993 season, Nebraska could have folded and fallen back to the high-level mediocrity that they'd experienced the previous nine seasons (77-19-1, .799 winning percentage, 2 conference championships, 2 co-championships). Instead, the Huskers used that heartbreaking loss in their near-miss season to propel themselves on one of the greatest runs in the history of college football. Over the next four seasons, Nebraska went 49-2 (.961) with three national championships (1994, 1995, 1997).
I have never been accused of being "scarlet-colored glasses" guy or "glass half-full guy", but I truly believe that Ohio State is going to go on a similar run in the next few years. The talent is there in droves, Ryan Day is a certified coaching genius, and the Big Ten will be ours for the taking. We will be a perennial playoff team, and we will win some.
Ohio State will win the national championship in 2020. Book it.
