2020 Team Discussion Thread

“Ohio State has continued its communications with the Big Ten Conference office regarding a scenario to still play fall football games, but has now determined that this would not be an allowable opportunity for us to move toward,” Smith said in a statement released by the school. “We are 100-percent focused on supporting the health and safety and academic success of our student-athletes, and on working with the Big Ten to develop a spring plan for our sports as expeditiously as possible.”

Yup. With no football, at least we have plenty of time to figure out the legalities and logistics of leaving this fucked conference.
Seriously don’t see that happening unless there is a Super Conference that gets developed.

As much as anything burning down the worthless institution that is the NCAA would be a win coming out of this mess...

Hope you are correct, but am very skeptical they will w/o a natty to fight for. IMO it's more likely they'll be prepping for the combine in the spring.
I agree..But let's see what the rest of the conferences do. If they postpone and the NFL draft gets pushed back a month or so, then we might still get a season. I know that Day said the coaches are pushing for a January start date. That would put the completion of the season at the end of March or first of April. Maybe the NFL would push back the combine to late April early May, and they can draft a few weeks later.

Plus playing on turf in a dome would be another in a list of Buckeye advantages.

The NFL isn’t moving the draft, Goodell has stated as much. The NFL isn’t beholden to college. Whatever college does is on their own. I’d be interested in seeing if they have a season in January and incorporate the early enrollees. That’d be a great recruiting tool, but the worry will be having 2 seasons in a year. That’s an immense beating on young men’s bodies. Especially in the day and age when we’re supposed to be focusing more on football players safety

Maybe the NFL would move the draft.....

Big 12 football to proceed; NFL could adjust offseason calendar to accommodate spring college football

"One thing that is very clear from talking to several NFL officials and high-ranking members of different teams, the NFL is going to do what it can to accommodate college football and basically help guide them through this and help adjust their own schedule to make sure it works for all sides," Rapoport said during an appearance on Good Morning Football ahead of the Big 12's Wednesday announcement. "For instance, if there are things in the NFL calendar that need to be moved or shifted around to help college football play in the spring, if that's what they decide to do. Surely that is something that the NFL is more than willing to do. They know pretty well how big of a part of them college football is."

There also likely will not be the usual slate of college all-star games, especially if the majority of college football plays in the spring, removing another key part of the scouting process that often sees overlooked players gain significant recognition ahead of the draft.

The NFL Scouting Combine would likely shift, and the draft itself can be moved up to as late as June 2, according to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, before the NFL must renegotiate things with the NFLPA. Such a possibility is very much on the radar of the league, per Rapoport, though an incredibly quick turnaround for rookies might devalue draft picks in a collateral result of a schedule shift.

The NFL is literally drafting COLLEGE players. Of course they’d move it. No way they wouldn’t. Over 15 million people watch the draft. That huge ratings. Goodell isn’t going to mess that up.

I've thought the same thing, but had the nagging counter argument that the players that might get drafted won't wait around on that. Shit, they've been skipping bowl games for it. That concept might work if college players banded around it, but I highly doubt that.

I agree with that too...on a side note, Goodell autocorrected to Goddess on my phone. Thought that was comical

“I’ll get emotional if I start thinking about it,” Day said Wednesday. “What I said to the team the other day is the truth: As a player, you work your whole life and as a coach, you work your whole life for an opportunity to coach a team like this. This team is special. It’s special because it’s talented. It’s special because it has leadership. It’s special because of the character. It could have been in a once-in-a-lifetime team.

“Certainly the team last year I’ll never forget. It was the first time as a head coach, and what they did was awesome, but there was just something about this team that had it. It had it. They came back hungry after their last game on the field. They were determined. And this quarantine, this virus was not going to get in their way.”
