2020 B1G Season - Starts Oct. 23/24

With all the criticism here of the B1G and Kevin Warren, I'm going to express a certainly unpopular opinion: I think the conference ultimately got it right.

The initial announcement? Huge mistake. Transparency? There's been none. So Warren and the conference presidents deserve some serious criticism there. But I think the plan they've come up with is scientifically and medically defensible, it will be protective of the athletes' health and their NFL potential, and it gives the Buckeyes a realistic chance to compete for the National Championship. I'm very pleased with the end result, if not with the process.

I'm with you on a solid result based off a very flawed process.

Hard to say they "got it right" when we watched them fuck it up every step of the way and only arrive at the result after they tried to arrive at the opposite result twice until they caved to enormous pressure.

I'd say they fell out of a window and landed in a pile of $100 bills. Good result doesn't mean you aren't a complete shithead for falling out of a window in the first place.

The 5% rule will fuck over some teams late. Think about being scheduled to play zero-win teams Indiana and Rutgers late in the season - what reason do most members of those teams have to stay in the bubble and forego college partying just to keep getting their asses kicked and embarrassed every week? Ithink you'd have to put money on the table for everyone to make it work. Does Ohio State make the playoffs if they go 5-0 because the shit teams don't stay eligible to play?

Special championship weekend with crossovers on Dec. 19. First-first, second-second, etc.

Big Ten football schedule 2020: League to play eight games plus consolation games on championship week

The Big Ten division winners won't be the only teams in action in the league's championship week

The Big Ten's truncated 2020 football season will feature an unprecedented conference championship week as all 14 teams will play a ninth game on the weekend of the league title game. Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez, who leads the conference's scheduling subcommittee, revealed the plan Wednesday in a presentation on Big Ten Network.

"We will play eight games plus one," Alvarez said. "Very unique champions week, where the teams from the East and West will match up and play one another."

The league's schedule is likely to be announced this week and is expected to be an eight-game, conference-only slate beginning the weekend of Oct. 24 with the all-inclusive championship week and ninth game coming the weekend of Dec. 19.

Under the plan, the two division winners will play each other in the conference title game like normal with the second-place teams from each division facing off and so on all the way down to the seventh-place teams from each division. Alvarez noted the league will try to avoid having teams play each other twice and said it's not been determined where the additional championship week games will be played.

Just think of the possibilities, maybe an 0-8 scUM could play an 0-8 Purdue and actually get a trophy for 13th place.....

Pretty sure the "look test" is going to be the primary selection factor for the CFP committee this year. I don't know if there are any game minimums in play... I know to be bowl eligible you have to win 6 games, but... this is a unique season...

I'm going to savor the fact we have a chance to get fucked over this year before I start worrying myself about how we might get fucked over.

In a shortened season the logical rule would be to win 50% of your games.

They look much better than they have for the past 5 weeks, that’s for sure.

Their ideal outcome would be the B1G completing almost all of their games, while the other leagues end up being forced to cancel multiple games for most teams, and end up having played less than 9 games per team, due to less effective testing, protocols, and commitment from individual players.

At this point I’m optimistic for the Buckeyes and the B1G season, but it will probably take several weeks before we can make an accurate assessment of each conference’s decisions and actions.
