2020-2021 College Basketball Discussion (Official Thread)

I think that's a pretty good hire for PSU.

The only knock on him might be that he has never been a head coach before. Regardless, he has paid his dues coming up through the ranks and deserves a chance. He's got a lot of connections/ties in Indiana (Indianapolis HS, Hanover College, Wabash, DePauw, IU South Bend, Butler, and Purdue twice, etc.); he might have been a good hire for the Hoosiers too. It will be interesting to see if he gets any of the top recruits out of Indiana for Penn State.....

Just sayin': Maybe he wasn't that best hire after all:

New PSU coach Micah Shrewsberry’s arrival in foreign land delayed as six Lions prepare to leave

Three-fourths of the eight 2021 PSU rotation players entered the transfer portal on Tuesday – Myreon Jones, Izaiah Brockington, Seth Lundy, John Harrar, Jamari Wheeler and Trent Buttrick. It’s easier to name the ones who, as of Tuesday night, had not yet – Sam Sessoms and Myles Dread.

.
It’s nothing against the new coach, just named Sunday night. The Nittany Lion players are acting partly in rebellion toward an athletic administration that never explained to them the forced resignation of the coach who recruited them, Pat Chambers, then didn’t retain the interim replacement they’d known and trusted as an assistant, Jim Ferry.

Shrewsberry is facing an exodus that promises to set back his program at least a year and more likely several. Only several scoops into the liberated NCAA transfer bin can save total disaster.

Shrewsberry said he talked to the Penn State players on Monday night, but it apparently had no effect.

NBA stat but colleges follow suit, at least the ones producing NBA-type players. I think the 3 point shot has had unintended consequences.

Nothing but threes and dunks, but good luck ever putting that toothpaste back in the tube. The kids love it and viewership keeps growing.

Doesn't do much for this old fart, though. NBA basketball bores the shit out of me more each year despite liking it as a kid.

He is gonna have a rough first couple years but none of that says anything about how good of a hire he will be long-term.

Realistically I don't think PSU was gonna land some huge splash of a name that would keep Chambers' guys there when they can transfer without penalty, so smart to go with a guy with good pedigree who has a decent shot at pulling off a rebuild.

I get you don't enjoy it as much, but it's just the math of winning. Taking either the highest percentage shot, or the shot that gets you more points.

I get the math of winning, it's rather obvious, but I don't like how it has changed the game.

I grew up watching a different style of basketball. Obviously, this is the future of the game because the three ball isn't going anywhere.

We beat ORU 6 out of 7. Too bad they got us at our worst possible.

I think Wiscy beats UNC 3 out of 7. Today was one of their 3.

In no way, shape, or form was Wiscy better than us this season. But they get to have a better postseason.

Wiscy wasn't better than us, but I'd take them over UNC in a seven game series. The ACC just wasn't that good this season.

I both love and hate March Madness. Today is just brutal.
Sums up why I’ll never love basketball the way I love football. Just feels like way more of a luck driven sport.

Could be and I do agree the ACC and UNC aren't all that.

Wisconsin were 0-9 against the teams ahead of them in conference. They didn't have a good conference season.

But they're enjoying today a lot more than Purdue or OSU is, that's for sure.
