2020-2021 College Basketball Discussion (Official Thread)

Think so? I mean, in a vacuum I could see it. But I read if they shitcan him this year, the buyout is $10.5M, but it drops to $3.5M next year.
Yeah that’s the big unknown, especially in the current finanical situation most Departments are in. It’s $10M spread out over 3 years, but there’s offset language if he gets another job. Obviously have to budget assuming the full buyout, but does Archie just sit around for 3 years? Maybe they only end up paying 1-2 years of it. Or maybe they uncover he’s got skeletons like his brother in Tuscon. I know fans want him out, comes down to the buyout like you said.

They did back up a Brinks truck for Tom Allen on the football side this week.

Northwestern is playing like complete shit but Minnesota cant seem to run away
For real, that was the most craptastic game I have seen all season. Both teams were garbage. Robbins is a stud and hugely missed, and Kalscheur's shooting is sorely missed by the Gophers as well. This team is a shell of the one that beat OSU in December. With the Buckeyes on a losing streak, and this being a revenge game, they will be motivated to win. I would be surprised if they don't rout this Gopher squad.

As committee gauges its protocols, all a team needs to play in NCAA tournament is five healthy players

All a team needs to play in this year's NCAA tournament is five healthy players. How about a coach? The NCAA will get back to you on that.

The fluid nature of a March Madness played amid the coronavirus pandemic was spelled out Wednesday, hours before the NCAA selection committee began meeting to hash out a 68-team bracket that could remain in flux up until the games tip off next week.

The fluid nature of a March Madness played amid the coronavirus pandemic was spelled out Wednesday, hours before the NCAA selection committee began meeting to hash out a 68-team bracket that could remain in flux up until the games tip off next week.

In explaining a number of contingencies that could come into play if teams are exposed to COVID-19, NCAA senior VP of basketball Dan Gavitt said that as long as a team has five healthy players, it's good to go. And if that team's coaching staff gets decimated by the coronavirus?

"Honestly, it's probably something we should talk about as a committee," he said.

For months, the NCAA has been laying out protocols to ensure the tournament will go off in somewhat normal-looking fashion. The biggest change is that all 68 teams will descend on Indianapolis next week, and all games will be played in and around the city over 19 days.

Players will have their own rooms and teams will have their own floors at designated hotels throughout their stay in Indiana. Players and coaches will be subject to frequent virus testing and contact tracing. To augment that effort, when they're at practice and in games, players will wear devices that track their location and can keep track of people they've been in close proximity with -- helpful if one of those close contacts tests positive.

Two weeks ago, the NCAA released its policy about how and when teams that make the tournament might be replaced if they're struck by the virus. The bracket comes out during the usual reveal, on Sunday evening. After 6 p.m. Tuesday, teams that make the field cannot be replaced if they get sick, and their scheduled opponents would simply move on in the bracket.

But Gavitt acknowledged that as long as a team has five players, it can stick around for as long as it keeps winning.

"We decided if they had five players eligible and healthy," they could play, he said. "We wrestled with contingencies, and thought it was fairest for a team that earned its way, that even if it was compromised, they should have the opportunity to play rather than be replaced."

I don't think we will rout them just because it feels like ages since our opponent played poorly against us.

Minny and PSU are two teams who always seem to give us their best shot.

Looks like Big Ten tourney tickets are sold out for Saturday and Sunday (unless I go secondary market), but I managed to grab 3 random sets of tickets for the NCAA at Lucas Oil - 1 on Fri and 2 on Saturday. No clue who the games will be, but it's March and it's live sports for the first time in a year.

Fingers crossed on good matchups and/or the Bucks.
Snagged another set of 4 for "Round 2 Game 1" at Lucas Oil on that Sunday, whatever that ends up being. Was really hoping to watch an NCAA game at Hinkle Fieldhouse - the best venue to watch basketball, imo - but those went quick or I got booted trying to check out.

Bankers Life were all extreme nosebleeds and I didn't really look at the Fairgrounds Coliseum - though I'll be there tonight for minor league hockey, so I got that going for me. 1 year to the day I saw my last live sporting event with IU/Rutgers in the Big Ten Tourney.

Back on Tuesday 10am for the Sweet 16 presale.

With all the teams in one location, I figured they could restructure or match up if 2 separate teams have to bail. I feel like some team will get a bye game at some point.

"some team". We all know it'll be Duke.
In a twist of fate...Duke surprisingly gets punished by this rule. They're out of the ACC Tourney due to a positive test. That will end their season.

Looks like season is over for the Blue Devils.

Hey, had they of gotten into the NCAA tournament it will save them from another embarrassing 1st round loss to a team like Lehigh....
