2019 Week 9 CFB Open Thread

Well with the B12 shatting the bed as a conference, the Domers getting an Ann Arbor Aletr Boy run on them and the PAC 12's CFP chances on perpetual life support it looks like you have 4 spots for;

-Clemson (they just can't lose to anyone on that schedule)
-SEC Champ (let's be real, Bama or LSU)
-B1G Champ (OSU/PSU)
-Beauty contest between 1 loss non champion Bama/LSU, PSU/OSU and possibly 1 loss PAC 12 champ Oregon

Not commenting on odds of any of it, just clarifying the picture in my own mind.

I miss anyone?

Could make it Oregon/Utah winner for that last possibility, as long as they only have 1 loss.

If WLOCP Winner wins out (UGA still goes to Auburn), and beats LSU/Bama in the CCG, they'd be a 1-loss Conf Champ. Then the SEC has the possibility of 3 1-loss teams.

Obviously Minny and Baylor would have to win out, and that's very unrealistic for both.

1-loss Oklahoma, with probably 2 wins over Baylor, would need a lot of help.

What's fair and what will happen are two very different things. The only 1-loss team that had any chance of getting in over the Bama-LSU loser was Notre Dame, and that scissor lift just crashed to the ground.

Best hope is for Bama to lose to both LSU and Auburn. If Tua is hobbled, that's possible.

But if undefeated LSU somehow loses to a one loss Georgia or Florida in the SECCG, LSU will jump most other one loss teams. This includes a one loss Bama if LSU beats them regular season. The one loss SEC Conference Champ will be picked ahead of Bama, as will LSU who beat Bama. IOW, Bama only needs that one LSU loss if LSU loses the SECCG.

The B1G gets two in if the Penn State/Ohio State winner winds up the undefeated B1G conference champion - and Penn State or TOSU had just that one close loss. I'm thinking that even if Utah wins out, they lost to a crappy USC. Oregon lost to a likely three loss Auburn team. And undefeated Baylor still has the meat of its schedule ahead of it. They will not win out. Hell, even the crazy grass eater in Kansas might take Baylor out at home.

I can see two SEC and two B1G teams this year, and everyone else bitching.

I literally forgot about Clemson. Forgot about them. They literally have no competition the rest of the way. So, total dumb-ass brain fart dementia aside, Clemson, and SEC Champ, and BIG champ are in. And for the one loss team, I see Ohio State if the only loss is to an undefeated Penn State - and LSU if its only loss is to the SEC Champ and one loss Penn State is the biggest one loss competitor.

Just sayin': Just returning to practice is a lot different than actually practicing and being able to play in a game.

Random observations from continuing to watch recorded games from Saturday:

In between the first 12:45 and the last 12:45 at Kansas State, the Sooners were outscored 41-6. Jalen Hurts' only TD pass was thrown behind the line of scrimmage to Ceedee Lamb, who made 6 guys miss on a 70-yard TD.

In the Miami-Pitt game, the Canes has a short goal-line situation. When their center adjusted the ball prior to the snap, half of it was over the goal line (I don't recall ever seeing it that blatant). Refs did nothing, the snap was fumbled, but Cryami recovered and scored a TD right after that.

Note to football announcers: Once again, the ground caused a fumble on a TCU kickoff return that was recovered by Texas. Replay correctly confirmed the call.
