I wouldn't say light years as an OC. Herman was absolutely magnificent after VT in 2014 and for most of his tenure here. Head coaches calling plays is always a dicey proposition. Add in that he still has the Beck Virus there and, well...
Light years.

Day will go under center, he will go 5 wide, he will keep running the ball until teams sell out, and when they sell out he takes the top off.

Day is far more versatile IMO.

Mannnn I was super wrong about Illinois lol. Didn't think they were Rutgers level of suck but here we are.
They're neck/neck with Rutgers, in my IMO. Peters is out and they're left with a 190 low 3 star and walk-on at QB. The rest of the team is garbage as well. Lovie has been a disaster. Ron freaking Zook has been their best coach, by a wide margin, over the past quarter century. Let that sink in...

Oh, I'd take Day over him, but I can't minimize Herman's abilities. Flaws? You betcha. But he's an outstanding OC. Head coach? Jury is still out. Would like to see what he can do without the proverbial anchor Tim Beck's influence is on an offense.

He's also working with the best assistant coaches in the country and a shitload more talent. Although, I don't believe either one of those facts lessens the claim that Day is in fact superior to Herman.

great point

Didn’t LJB at some point do a run down on coaches that got schools to their ceiling, but got fired for not getting past that ceiling?

Friedgen at Maryland
Schiano at Rutgers
Zook at Illinois
Mason at Minnesota
Etc
