off-topic tangent, but whenever i hear about a kid having skipped a grade in elementary, pretty much all i take from it is that the parents have big egos and want to one-up everyone else. elementary is at least as much about socialization within a peer group as it is about learning math, grammar, and whatnot. unless the kid is doogie howser, just let the youngster enjoy his youth.

and then you have the flip-side where parents hold their kids back so that they're more physically developed than those in the same grade. i'm looking at you, mike and mickey mitchell's parents. same applies: parents with big egos and the need to one-up everyone else. no wonder mickey and mike had college careers that floundered compared to the hype. parents burned them out.
