2019 tOSU Defense (Official Thread)

It seems like they’re a bit slower to start doing things differently; I feel like we could have went to that zone so much sooner in order to mitigate the intermediate throws by Wiscy but instead we waited until halftime. Just a bit confusing to me as Hadley has said several times in pressers that you need to adjust series to series
Is it possibly Halfey didn't feel comfortable going to zone until Okudah returned?

The defense has been human I think since the 2nd half of the Maryland game. I hope we can get healthy and get back to form a bit.

Especially these last 2 weeks were a bit surprising in the first half. Need to start a bit better if we are going to beat OU or Clemson.
I think the defensive staff was thrown for a loop by both scUM and Wisky's OCs. Both have been primarily run oriented/play action pass teams throughout the seasons, and came out spreading the field which was a nice wrinkle. And our DCs adjusted. OSU came out in 4-4-3 in both first halfs, only to get shredded and have to go back to the drawing board. I think it shows how talented our defensive staff is at adjusting. I think you saw our defense out of sorts last night when Coan started firing, and then it threw them off balance when the gashed us with Taylor, usually its the opposite.
Playing Clemson, IMO plays to our strengths, let Chase and the DL loose after Lawrence, and throw him off his game, while still keeping a very keen eye on Etienne.

Again I think the staff never feared Whisky. We make it simple and just execute we win. I really haven’t seen a game plan specific approach since MSU. We are going to do what we do and if we play sound you can’t beat us. I expect change ups the next two games.
We're going to have to have change ups going forward. We will be facing similar Spread power running teams in the CFP

Bumping to say I'm incredibly proud of the effort the boys gave tonight. Locked up Higgins and Ross all night. Did have some breakdowns but you're going to have that going up against a team as talented as Clemson. Wish we could've kept Hafley one more year.
I am afraid we are going to miss Hafley badly next year. Here is to hoping Day finds a replacement nearly as good as he has been. His Defense out played Venables' D which is saying something.

Missing Hafley plus losing Okudah and Wade is going to be big. Fuller and Arnette graduating. The DBs are going to be the question of the off season.
nothing else comes close to the concerns over the defensive backfield. linebackers are a distant second, though still concerning (obviously). hope our offense is high-power yet again. expect that we'll have to win some shootouts.
