2019 NCAA Basketball Tournament Discussion (Official Thread)

So...which team in the B1G do people think is most likely to surprise, and which is most likely to shit the bed? I think Minnesota can beat Louisville, and since I’m one of the 6 people in the world it seems who thinks Wisconsin will beat Oregon, I’ll take Maryland for the bed shitting.

agreed to a T. i just see maryland losing their first game and i am actually high on wisky chances to make a small run....(pukes)

Thanks for setting up the bets, '73.

I crack up every year at people who think the only thing wrong with the NCAA tournament is teams like 16-16 Texas and 17-15 Indiana got left out and some mid-majors *GASP* got bids instead. Then we have, it's cool mid-majors get in but dammit don't give them credit for winning a tournament game when they actually win a tournament game.

Mid-majors didn't create this goofy "first four" format. The NCAA did, and it was to get more at-large big boys in without taking away auto bids from the little guys. So they make them play an extra game, play a game 2 days later if they win, but let's not give them credit for it in the record books because what...we're upset Fairleigh Dickinson and Belmont can now claim an NCAA tournament win?

I'd get rid of the "first four" altogether and keep it at 64. But if you play a game there's a winner and a loser. You don't pretend it didn't happen.
16 seeds who have won a tournament game:

Northwestern St - 2001
Sienna - 2002
UNC Ashville - 2003, 2011
Florida A&M - 2004
Oakland - 2005
Monmouth - 2006
Niagara - 2007
Mt St Marys - 2008, 2017
Morehead St - 2009
Arkansas Pine Bluff - 2010
UTSA - 2011
Western Kentucky - 2012
Vermont - 2012
North Carolina A&T - 2013
James Madison - 2013
Albany - 2014
Cal Poly - 2014
Hampton - 2015
Robert Morris - 2015
Florida Gulf Coast - 2016
Holy Cross - 2016
UC Davis - 2017
Radford - 2018
Texas Southern - 2018
UMBC - 2018
Fairleigh Dickinson - 2019

These are all equal accomplishments.

TBH, outside of UM and MSU, none of the B1G teams have been impressive of late and all could be subject to being upset in the first round. I wouldn't pick any of the B1G lower seeds to win, but they all have a fair chance.
The one B1G team the has been extremely disappointing to me has been Maryland.. They have such great size with Fernando and Smith but they just do not seem to use them like they should IMO I know that the team is very young but they have had a full season to get their act together.
