One of the worst replay reviews ever lets UM get a baserunner when the ball seemed clearly in the mitt before the foot hit the bag. Next batter 2-run HR. Just not Vandy's night.
Vandy's whole hitting strategy has been off base. They are going for the fences every swing and taking too many pitches. These umps have been calling a wide strike zone, you have to swing at the borderline pitches and foul them off if the pitch isn't to your liking. They need to shorten their swings and drive up the pitch count and eventually force UM to use pitchers they aren't as comfortable with.
Kumar plus some luck got it done tonight, as the Wolvies gifted Vandy 3 runs with an error and wild pitches. One Vandy dude walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice, went to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on another wild pitch. That's peak college baseball right there.
Now the rubber match for all the marbles. Go Vandy!
Vandy might want to tell James Franklin (yes, the PSU football coach is rooting for Vandy baseball in Omaha) to stay away for tomorrow's game. With his record vs UM, it can't be a good thing for him to be there.
