At least Chase will win the Outland (best interior lineman); Lombardi (best lineman or linebacker), Bednarik (best defensive player), Nagurski (best defensive player), and Hendricks (best defensive end).

The Maxwell Award (best player) voters like to be contrarian, so maybe they would give it to Young.
The Rotary Lombardi Award switched to "best college football player" a couple of years ago, so there's more competition from offensive players now (Bryce Love won it in 2017).

Heisman Straw Poll: Chase Young starts an Ohio State surge
By Matt Fortuna

Will New York become Columbus East in December? Ohio State’s star-studded roster sure has a chance to make it look that way.

There has been a massive shakeup in this week’s The Athletic Heisman straw poll. Yes, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow remains No. 1, receiving 131 voting points and 33 of 50 first-place votes. But behind him at No. 2 is Ohio State defensive end Chase Young, who received 66 voting points (and 10 first-place votes) after posting the closest thing to a Heisman moment that anyone has had this season, as he recorded four sacks and forced two fumbles in the Buckeyes’ rout of Wisconsin.

This marks the first week of the poll that the top three vote-getters are not some combination of Burrow, Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa. Hurts is No. 3 this week despite Oklahoma’s loss to Kansas State, as the quarterback did his job by amassing 491 yards of offense and four touchdowns in defeat. He received 44 voting points and three first-place votes.

Tagovailoa falls to No. 4 after missing Alabama’s domination of Arkansas with an ankle injury. He is even with Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, and Fields’ teammate, running back J.K. Dobbins, is behind them.

Our poll follows protocol of the actual Heisman Trophy voting: three points for a first-place vote, two points for second and one for third.

Fields actually garnered three first-place votes — the same number as the third-place Hurts. The Buckeyes have three players among the top-six vote-getters right now, though Dobbins received only a couple third-place votes. Let’s not forget that the current frontrunner, Burrow, transferred to LSU from Ohio State.

SKULL SESSION: OHIO STATE'S THREE HEISMAN CANDIDATES, JIM HARBAUGH IS GOOD BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH, AND URBAN MEYER'S BIG TEN TITLE ADVICE

WELCOME TO NEW YORK. It's looking like the Heisman Trophy ceremony is going to be just an Ohio State public service announcement.

Three of the top-five vote-getters in a straw poll from The Athletic ($) are Buckeyes. And that doesn't even count the Ohio State graduate that is currently the frontrunner. So, everyone in the top-three and four of the top-five players in the country attended Ohio State.

That seems about right.

If five players are invited, Ohio State has a chance to become the first school to send three players to a single ceremony. But if only three are invited, you better I'm still claiming that title, because 2.5 is more than 2.

Hard to win the Heisman vote to begin with, then add the fact that only one defensive player has ever been selected, double the trouble when you have one - forget two - teammates who will also receive votes. One can only hope.

So, question.

I haven’t gotten to watch y’all as much this year, but do y’all agree with Fields over Dobbins?

When i’ve been able to watch, i always felt he was best player on the team (not a knock on Fields, just that Dobbins is really freaking good).

Personally, I think Dobbins is the best back in the country, but I think it's almost impossible to leave out a QB with 50 total TDs and only 1 interception for an undefeated team.

Its a qb award, except when a ga tech qb is the best player then a fat wisc rb gets a lifetime achiement award. Yes im still pissed Joe Hamilton was robbed.

Zeke was the biggest robbery of my lifetime.
Henry was good, never that good.
Regardless, the trophy is a sham... giving it to people like Reggie, Jameis, Manziel, Newton ... after Troy, I'd rather skip the award circuit.
It really does get to kids' heads while games are still left to play... and I can't blame them.
As far as getting a recruiting bump from awards... we send kids to the NFL. I'm good with that. Team Hardware >>> tattoo trading hardware.
Not sure why they're all awarded prior to bowls, or awarded to shitbags so frequently.
