2019-2020 College Basketball Discussion (Official Thread)

One thing that makes basically no sense: Virginia ranked in the national top-10 in the preseason coaches poll. They lost by far their 3 best players and all they have left from their title team is role players. I don't think they should be in the top-25 unless and until they earn their way in based on results this season.
at least until conference play, uva will probably maintain a lofty ranking because their non-conference schedule is pathetically weak: link. for bettors, it may be profitable to bet against them when they enter acc play.

per this metric, osu's non-conference is just average among the so-called power teams. we play some good top-level competition, but we take a hit because we play a fair amount of really bad teams and only a few road/neutral games. my guess is that many or most of the teams ahead of us are playing in exempt tournaments with top-50 teams at a neutral location.

look for illinois to be ranked early in the season partly because of their soft schedule. i'd include indiana, but... nah.

Yea UVA's ranking doesnt make much sense.

It's not like they have a elite incoming class to replace those players either (Their incoming class was 23rd)

Tis the problem with ranking teams without any data though, most of it is usually based on past results.

looking at virginia tech's team. it's a horror show. lost the coach and every key player. top returning scorer averaged no more than 5 points last year. incoming recruiting class consists of no top 100 players and only 1 player in the top 240. no worthwhile incoming transfers.

it's a joke that the acc gets to drop their worst team from the challenge every year. should be on a rotation. even northwestern would probably wipe the floor with vt. otherwise, notre dame should never be allowed to play in the challenge.
