I do not even know why they put out basketball rankings before the new year begins because rankings put out this early are ridiculous. The Coaches Poll and AP Poll put out today do not even have Virginia Tech getting one vote while Michigan State sits at the #3 spot. It is just silly to put out rankings this early when coaches are still messing around with their lineups plus players getting to know new guys on their teams and other stuff.

It is a point of distinction for the ranked programs & topic for conversation. If you're OSU and you are in the preseason top-25, you get to post about it on social media and use it to promote your brand. It matters very little but it is not irrelevant.
