2019-2020 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Indiana smoking Penn State right now up 24-8. If Ohio State doesn't find some wins they are going to finish 10th or 11th place in the Big Ten Standings.
all i care about is making the tournament. if osu goes 2-3 to finish the regular season at 20-12 (9-11), we're golden. and going 2-3 might result in 10th or 11th place.

lose today and it mostly comes down to nebraska, ttun, and illinois for those two wins. we'd probably still make it at 19-13 (8-12), but that might be pushing it. we'd be at the whim of conference tournaments. the selection show would be a nailbiter.

Would prefer to avoid the 11-14 games of the B1G tournament but I guess it doesn't matter with this team.

heck, i don't think it matters in general. the selection committee has repeatedly shown that conference tournament performance has almost no bearing on their decisions. i mean, maybe if we go 1-4 from here on out to go 19-13 (8-12) overall, then a couple wins might be that extra something that gets us a spot. otherwise, i'll be fine if osu goes 1-1 in the conference tournament. might even prefer that to playing 3 games in 3 days a week before the real tournament.

kinda depressing that it's year 3 under ho1tmann and year 1 was the only season where we felt at least a little comfortable heading into march. but, hey, at least archie miller isn't our coach.

With regard to conference tourneys, those games literally count the same as other games. Some teams get extra data points, but either way you get about 33-35 games by Selection Sunday, and the last 1-3 games a team gets from the conference tourney will represent about 3-8% of their season. Every team gets the same resume-building chances with their respective conference tourney, so it is not like those wins are unanswered by the competition from other conferences. By the time the conference tourney rolls around, generally the hay is in the barn & the tourneys will make little difference for most teams.

Also, it is February 23, and I feel comfortable that "heading into March" this OSU team is making the tournament.

I have almost zero doubt, given the amount of “quality wins” they’ve racked up. Which makes the season, as a whole, all the more frustrating with regard to the total body of work.

with our rotation now consisting of just Walker, Muhammad, Washington, Ahrens, EJ, and the Wesson bros, I wonder if Holtmann is going to be forced to play Gaffney or Diallo some spot minutes here and there.
I can see Gaffney getting some minutes because his redshirt has already been burned but unless we run into Major foul trouble I doubt if we see the big guy and just beginning to wonder……
