2018 Week 14 CFB Open Thread

I can live with 5. Whatever. But 6? That's basically saying even if OU lost yesterday, Georgia would be in instead of us. Absolutely insane. Nope not watching a single second of CFP this year. SEC once again will have a losing record in the bowl games but for some inexplicable reason will still be seen as the dominant conference going into next year. While B1G will be seen as equivalent to the PAC 12 despite the former nearly going undefeated in bowl games.

Fuck the committee, fuck Delaney for being a spineless useless representative, and shame on Schiano for being unable to put together a marginally functional defense when we had the best passing offense this conference has ever fucking seen. 2 tackles for our starting LBs yesterday is not gonna cut Mr. Schiano.

Whew ok I got that off my chest. I'm good now.

Much as I try not to care, I am still feeling a little disappointed. And a smidge like...not sure what...the scapegoat of the family? TOSU barely lost to Sparty back when, and that was all it took to be eliminated from consideration. Other teams lose, and it means nothing, even late in the season.

It know...I know...Purdue, Clemson, etc.

Guess I'm just tired of seeing them come SO close, season after season, and so loaded with elite talent, but not quite being able to pull it off. Most of all, I'm really sick of having a bunch of pricks in a dark room make the decision. Also won't be watching any of the games--would LOVE to see the ratings tank, but that's likely just wishfulness on my part.

Always liked Roses. At least the game will be on New Year's Day this time. Back to the Christmas decorations.

Choose one:

- a 3 loss Alabama

- Alabama with a GOAT coach, NFL talent everywhere, and a ton of dominant performances.

Alabama hasn't lost 3 games in 8 years.

I think an Alabama team that accumulates 3 losses under Nick Saban clearly has fundamental flaws and talent deficiencies. A 3 loss Alabama this year, for example, would not be viewed as likely to beat OU, Clemson, or ND.

My hypothetical was a 2 loss Alabama, because I can see a dominant team dropping 1 in the regular season (i.e. OSU 2015) and losing a CCG. I can't see a 3 loss team as ever being regarded as dominant.
So 3 is where the line is drawn? I'm not seeing how a 3 loss Alabama team would be less likely to gorillafuck any of the playoff teams than they are right now. Shit happens and shit might have just happened to them 3 times, whatever, they still beat everyone else by 60.

This is my issue with the "best teams" argument. It accepts that results and circumstance matter up to some arbitrary point, and then they definitely don't because hey, those boys are just good.

I can't imagine the ratings will be anything special. Most of these playoff games have been boring blowouts and these first two would appear to be no different. Three of the teams have already been in the CFP, there is no mystery who will meet in the final, it will be a repeat Bama/Clemson game, and also will likely not be close. It's the same movie we've seen over and over again already. I don't see many people outside those fan bases being too excited to sit there and watch these games. I've mostly skipped the CFP the last two or three years and this year will be no different.

So, it's a big deal if you lose a game, because then you aren't championship material. Losing demonstrates you're vulnerable and inferior. Yet, it occurs to me that 50% of the teams in the CFP will lose their next game, and 75% of them will have lost one out of the next two. They must not be very good.

OU has the privilege of getting of destroyed by Alabama, so they might actually move up to #2 when it’s all said and done.
