Virginia Tech football: LB Andrew Motuapuaka explains significance of Bud Foster’s lunch pail

The metal lunch pail that Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster uses to motivate his players is as old as middle linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka, so it’s no surprise that Motuapuaka didn’t fully understand it at first.

However, in a first-person piece published on the Virginia Tech athletics website Wednesday, Motuapuaka explained the significance of the lunch pail that has served as a talisman since Foster arrived at the school in 1995.

Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente’s mantra of “1-0” has been repeated dozens of times in press conferences the past two seasons, and Motuapuaka said Foster’s lunch pail embodies that message. The metal pail has three letters painted on it: “WIN.”

That doesn’t just stand for the result the team is looking for from each game, Motuapuaka explained. It’s an acronym, short for “What’s Important Now.”

EDIT: MEANING Bud Foster's D is gonna need a couple of lunches if the game goes this way. The offense moving the ball will make his D get extra time on the field...

I'm starting to wonder if Bud brought a plunger instead of a pail?
