2018 QB Battle Discussion

Martell is JTII to me. Does his running ability mean that in big games Ohio State continues to depend on the predictable QB run? Haskins arm opens up the running game. Defenses have to respect that arm. Burrows gives you a little bit of both.

After what Haskins did against scum when he came in I have to believe that it's his job to lose. He's the only one of the three that has actually played on the big stage and stepped up and performed when it mattered most.

Is Martell not a threat to transfer?
Minimal.

Be the backup this fall (with some spot duty). Haskins might go pro in 10 months.

(unsaid: Matthew Baldwin is not going to be any kind of threat in the short term. He might be long term, but probably not before next spring, if then).

2018 - backup the QB that stays, play sparingly
2019 - possibly start
2020 - definitely start. Burrow will be out of eligibility (or) Dwayne has too much talent to stay for 3 years.

Now just like Burrow, after year 3 (2019), if Dwayne is staying, then you probably lose Martell (who likely has his degree by then). The 1-2 QBs signed in the 2019 & 2020 classes would be more of a factor, and Baldwin would no longer be a hobbled high schooler.

Martell could allow that tendency. He bears zero similarity to JT when it comes to passing proficiency.

They'll have to adjust the offense to pull it off, and that's why most of us are hoping Haskins wins out. Just like Cardale, it's easy to come in as a backup and scramble unexpectedly (which Cardale/Dwayne both can do). It's another thing to be the scouted signal caller that Urban loves running to death (which Cardale/Dwayne can't do)

I think Burrow has the best of both worlds. People forget about his mobility. With that said, Tate's arm is better than people think. His height is the only thing I can see getting in the way.
Speaking of JT comparisons, Joe is what we hoped JT could be. He's not the same tank physically, but he possesses a more well rounded game, particularly through the air.

He lost his starting role because of injury, not his substantial ability. I fully expect him to become a household name elsewhere if he should lose the QB race.

Personally, I haven't given up on Burrow yet. It looks like some people have, but maybe that's just me. :oh:

If Burrow transfers then he is the backup.

Do we really need him out there in the Wildcat or running an option as the 2nd stringer?

It's not like we don't have any athletes out there to give the ball too.

Not the biggest fan if this idea.
If Tate transfers they literally have no backups (at least not for 2018). The risk of attitude injury is more significant than physical injury.
