one has a noun following compound adjectives. the other does not.I know but the hyphens were in the original article title.
Try to keep up, man!
Sporting News' way-too-early top 25 for 2019-20
Way-too-early and way-too-optimistic
not sure what we'd do without you always keeping it real.I will just add that I do think we will be a Top 25ish team next season. I could see a point where we are ranked as high as 15th, even. Heck, we got that high this past season. I just don't think we will be ranked that high by the time another grueling bout of conference play is done.
People keep talking about how much better our guard play and playmaking is going to be but I really think we're gonna have to wait and see. Carton is a true frosh whose outside shot likely won't be good enough to keep lanes super open for himself. Walker averaged 8 ppg (on mediocre percentages) and 2 apg and plenty of turnovers his last season at FSU. I do think just in terms of the basic ballhandling skill and quickness at PG... yeah, we should be getting better. But in terms of the overall game, scoring, and facilitation, I mean, I'm not going to be making assumptions. Jackson was streaky and frustrating but still our second best scorer after Kaleb. Woods didn't contribute much for the majority of conference play but towards the end there, we don't make the Dance or compete in it without him and his scoring and all-around floor game. So I really don't think it's close to addition by subtraction. It's only addition if Carton can be one of the rare frosh who is a high-level contributor and if Walker has made big strides since his last season.
Then, after that, the rest of the rotation is going to be pretty similar to a team that went 8-12 in the B1G and failed to beat any of the teams in the Top 5. Obviously, you hope some of the returning guys get better--but I'm not sure about what kind of ceiling or progression arc most of them will have; I'm excited to see what sophomore versions of Luther, Duane, and Justin look like, but I'm also wary of not expecting them to make huge leaps in consistency or what have you after one off-season. As far as the talented two freshmen besides Carton, I do think EJ Liddell will be ready enough to mix into the forward rotation and can only hope Holtmann finds a way to get him enough minutes even though we've got Jallow, Ahrens, Young, and Andre all vying for time at the 3 and/or 4.
Anyways, see y'all next season.
big news for maryland. early in the season, jalen smith was predicted to depart early, but he fell off the draft boards as march approached... which doesn't always stop a player from leaving.
cowan, smith, ayala, wiggins, and morsell should form a pretty strong team.
