CFB Weekly Thread 2017 CFB Week 13 Open Thread

Tom Herman will not be a popular figure with the Shaggy crew tonight.

On another subject--saw some majorly shitty calls on replay/review by refs tonight, in the VA game, in the TX game. You had one job, refs.

He should not be. Snapping the ball with the :23 seconds left on the clock. Throwing passes to the flat and having WRs run OOB. Texas flat out gave that game away.

The final series where Ehlinger threw the pick on 3rd & 2, they should've already been in victory formation. At worst, you run it and pooch punt with 1:20, or go for it on 4th down.

That was just a colossal clusterfuck of stupid coaching, stupid playcalls, and players doing stupid things.

Coach Kool versus the Fighting Fallopian Tubes is a real cripple fight. Fuck it. I'm going to bed.

That's hilarious. I haven't heard anything like that in a long time.

True story: 2005 Texas game. Lived in Cleveland Heights and always went to the local B-dubs for big games with a bunch of my wife's friends from Case. One of our friends was dating a med-school girl of Korean descent with zero interest in any sports. She would still hang out during games though, but she would typically read a book or do a crossword and sometimes poke her head up and ask what inning it was or something like that. Well, during this game, I noticed her looking intently at one of the screens. She was really paying attention like she was trying to work out a coverage scheme. A few of us looked at each other and then back at her. No one could figure out why all the sudden she was so in to a football game. Finally her boyfriend asked "so, what are you seeing there." As if snapped out of a trance, she looked at him and then back at the screen and said "It doesn't make any sense... Why do all of those guys have uteruses on their helmets?"

If next year's starting QB is already on this Texas roster then Herman might not have a long tenure in Austin. JT Barrett will never have more than a cup of coffee in the NFL but he's better than every current Longhorn QB.

Re: Herman and 2014. Maybe, just maybe JT was surrounded by a few, ok more than a few future NFL players on offense. And maybe the Buckeyes had a few on defense as well. :biggrin2: Indeed, a qb is usually as good as the team around him, just ask Cardale.

Remember Urban's interview after demolishing Wisky re: how CJ had a few quality players surrounding him.

Having said this yes, TX grasped defeat from the jaws of victory, but that's just Texas being Texas. Hopefully Anthony Cook was watching. I digress.

btw, don't think Vince Lombardi/Bear Bryant, etc. were ever members of Mensa! :urban2:

Pretty great meltdown going on. All the components of a good shag meltdown. They're consigning themselves to a future of being Cal....you know, because now both the academics and the football are the same. And apparently none of them seem to have paid any attention whatsoever to UT football before 2004-2009 because they all think that is the natural place for Texas over the last 40 years rather than, in reality, what has happened since then being an averaging back to the historical mean of the program over the last four decades.

Speaking of mediocrity, the Texas SR class will be trying to win the Bowl game (something Texas hasn't done since 2012) in order to hit the 7 win plateau for the first time in their careers.

Think about that

Thank God Tim Beck isn't our problem anymore

You really have to wonder wtf Herman was smoking with that hire. I mean ... he had to see what Beck did here with the same kids he had so much success with... presumably trying to run a very similar offense that Herman wants to run... and just awful.
But thanks for taking him off our hands. I'd welcome Herman back in a heartbeat... suspect Wilson is looking to try HC again... that change could happen at the same time ? Same feeling with Ash / Schiano.
