Maybe stats wise, but take a look at the defenses they faced all season.
You're right--total defense and total offense are never stats that are quoted or relied upon in any respect.

Can someone please tell me how different this Wisconsin team is from the 2014 team? Seems like everyone is making them out to be quite a bit different and better.
I know how WE'VE changed. However, I haven't watched much Wisky this season and can't remember anything about them from 2014 except 59-0.
Also, do you think despite 3 years passing, there will be a revenge factor?

They aren’t much different, to be honest. Wisconsin is very traditional. Big/powerful lines, smash mouth football, TEs making plays. Their QB is still very prone to making mistakes and throwing dangerous balls or getting picked off. Another good running back in Taylor, similar to Melvin Gordon in ‘14.
They don’t have Abracadabra anymore, thank God. That dude was scary. Wait, was he around in 2014? Whatever, I remember him being a nightmare for us. Still, Fumagalli (their TE) is very good. This guy worries me the most about Whisky. He has to be covered very well and even then, he can find a way to make plays.
This game will come down to the offensive/defensive trenches again, most likely. Really good lines on both teams going head to head and trying to impose their will.

As for the revenge thing, yes, even though the head coach and most of the players are not on the team, I guarantee that game is a weight on their shoulders that they’ve had hanging around their facilities all week.
Would not be surprised if they had a lot of ‘59-0’ reminders in place to drill home that they need to play their best and come out swinging.

IMO they are worse on offense and roughly the same on defense..
Offense- Their offensive line in 2014 IMO was better then this bunch but only because the recruiting the past few years have set Wisconsin back a bit at OL. Then you factor in having Melvin Gordon that year against Taylor this year and while I think Taylor will be just as good there's no Denying how good Melvin was that year outside of our game. Then at WR they had Erickson and Doe as well which is better then anything they have this year due to missing two kids
Defense- Honestly its shockingly similar. Smaller Secondary, a big DL and LB's who are very solid.
Sure, but then again our team knows that once again we must do this game big to really have a chance. Motivation for payback from 3 years ago will only take Wisconsin so far.

No offense but Penn State runs a completely different offense than Wisconsin.
Wisconsin is most similar to tsun with a better QB, or Iowa with better everything.
Either of those analogies should, hopefully, give people pause before they expect a repeat of '14.

Well, as the game approaches, I can give my breakdown of the Wisconsin side of the ball. Feel free to ask me anything about this team and I'll try to answer.
Offense
The thing that sets this unit apart from those in the past is the receiving unit. Wisconsin has rarely, if ever, had guys outside who can go up and make a play on the ball. Losing Quintez Cephus in early November was a big blow, but the unit has responded admirably. Danny Davis is a freshman and is now the #1 option. He has shown an ability to make tough catches in traffic. A.J. Taylor is a gamer and Kendric Pryor will likely be utilized at the margins - Chryst and offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph run him out of the jet sweep quite often.
Troy Fumagalli got a lot of preseason attention, and he is indeed the typical big target at tight end. He's been slowed by injury in 2017 but still presents a threat, mainly over the middle. The #2 TE Zander Neuville went down last week against Minnesota and is out for the rest of the year. He will mainly be missed for his blocking ability.
The offensive line is a Wisconsin offensive line: they're big. However, they have been prone to breakdowns at times this year, especially against Michigan. I don't think this unit, as a whole, is up to snuff with some in the past. The Ohio State defensive line will be their biggest test this year by far.
I thought at some point Jonathan Taylor would hit a wall as a freshman. He really hasn't. Lightly recruited out of high school in New Jersey, he displays an exciting blend of speed, power, and balance. He is fumble-prone though, so don't be surprised to see him subbed out near the goal line. Wisconsin can and has gone deep into the depth chart at running back this year. If you see Rachid Ibrahim or Chris James in there, expect a pass. The fullbacks are fully incorporated into the gameplan.
And finally, Alex Hornibrook. Oh, Alex. The bane of half the Wisconsin fanbase, and simply tolerable to the other half. It's a running joke this year that he should just get his first interception out of the way, because he usually comes back stronger, like some sort of turnover Doomsday. He isn't blessed with the strongest arm by any means, but he has a knack for placing passes. He's kind of an inverse Joel Stave in that regard. Not mobile at all - think Drew Bledsoe in concrete.

First-year coordinator Jim Leonhard has put together a hell of unit here. They are extremely assignment-sure and tackle very well. The defensive line is alright, but the linebackers are the stars here. They lost Jack Cichy in the preseason and haven't really missed a beat. T.J. Edwards is the leader, though I expect Meyer will try to exploit his relative lack of speed on some routes in space. Leon Jacobs brings real good pressure off the edge.
The secondary hasn't been tested all that much, honestly. CBs Derrick Tindal and Nick Nelson are both solid, but again, it's hard to really judge them based on who they've played. SS D'Cota Dixon has been hampered by injury. Both he and FS Natrell Jamerson bring a lot of experience to the position.
They don't necessarily turn the ball over a lot (have you seen the passing game in the Big Ten West?) and instead rely on three-and-outs to get off the field. There have been games this year (Iowa) where the defense has saved the offense's hide. If they need to do that on Saturday, they are in trouble.
Wisconsin will lose a ton of defensive starters after this year, but for now, it's a talented, experience-laden group.

Looking at the big picture, I think it's a fairly straightforward gameplan for both teams. Consider this an evergreen statement: Ohio State has more speed and talent than Wisconsin. Accordingly, they should try and get guys in the open field. For Wisconsin, the focus should be on shortening the game and leaning on that defense. Should be a hell of a game, and I'm just really proud of this team.
