I did not know this
The NCAA altered the team sheets its using for tournament selection this year, putting more emphasis on road and neutral site wins. Gone are the days of using records against the RPI top-50, top-100, top-200 and then 200 or above regardless of where the game was played. Instead the selection committee will use four quadrants.
Here’s the breakdown of each quadrant,
from NCAA.com:
• Quadrant 1: Home 1-30 (RPI); Neutral 1-50; Away 1-75
• Quadrant 2: Home 31-75; Neutral 51-100; Away 76-135
• Quadrant 3: Home 76-160; Neutral 101-200; Away 136-240
• Quadrant 4: Home 161-plus; Neutral 201-plus; Away 241-plus.
How you fare in quadrants 1 and 2 makes you an attractive team for tournament selection.
Andy Katz did a breakdown of where things stand this week, and Ohio State is in a good spot with a 1-3 record in quadrant 1, and a 3-1 record in quadrant 2. That record can of course change as RPI spots change, but Ohio State right now is OK for a tournament spot. If the Buckeyes win the games they’re supposed to win moving forward, they should be fine.
Ohio State has two games remaining that would fall into quadrant 1: At Purdue on Feb. 7, and at Michigan on Feb. 18.
