2017-2018 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

I thought Penn State should gone for the 3 and the win there down 2 with less than 10 seconds left.
Chambers thought that Carr could pull off another miracle shot. Someone needs to tell him that only happens once a season and usually it happens to Ohio State.

On another topic regarding the Purdue-PSU game if I was Painter I think I would have been thrown out of the game very early on. The officiating in that game was horrible, what else is new, but just because a guy is very large (Haas) does not mean that the other team is allowed to mug the poor guy.

Penn State is dog[censored]--they play like the '96 Bulls when OSU is their opponent, but scUM rolls into town, and they look like they couldn't give a [censored].

I watched the game off and on while working out, seemed to be some dirty shit by the pedsters on a few plays. Elbows up in the head neck area, one guy blatantly knocked out of bounds to the floor going for a rebound, no call on either one. And although Tony Carr is a great player, he constantly gets away with pausing his dribble (technically a carry) and pushing the defender off, but never gets called for either. Didn't really mind it was the big man douche from TTUN that got the first elbow, but at least that one got called. Officiating is garbage in the conference and I don't understand it. Especially from Sarratore (spelling?) since he has plenty of experience.

OHIO STATE AND INDIANA CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASONS WITH DIFFERENT RESULTS

91247_h.jpg

When Archie Miller left Dayton for Indiana following the 2016-17 season, it was viewed by many that Ohio State had missed out on its future head coach.

Thad Matta's program had started to deteriorate, along with its recruiting classes and Miller was thought to be the clear choice to replace him. Instead, Indiana moved quickly, dismissing Tom Crean on March 16 and hiring Miller 11 days later.

In Columbus, Matta was retained until early June when it became clear to athletic director Gene Smith that a change needed to be made. Chris Holtmann's hiring was viewed largely as a success, but the 'What if?' questions surrounding what could have been with Miller were already being asked.

As the 2017-18 season comes to an end, however, those questions have since been silenced.

Holtmann's first Ohio State team is still in contention for a Big Ten title, while Miller's Hoosiers are right around where everyone thought they would be, in the middle of the Big Ten and an outside shot at an NCAA Tournament appearance.

The first meeting between the two first year head coaches saw Ohio State dominate from start to finish in a 71-56 victory. The second matchup, set for 8 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind., will be the final regular season game for both schools, as the Buckeyes try to remain in contention for a Big Ten title while the Hoosiers are gearing up for one last gasp at adding to its tournament resume.

If you would have told anyone that one of these two programs would be in a situation to make the tournament, and the other would be scratching and clawing its way to back into March Madness, most would have probably had Indiana as the team heading to the Big Dance.

However, the Hoosiers suffered brutal non-conference losses to Indiana State and Fort Wayne prior to the turn of the calendar year while Holtmann's squad has knocked off a pair of top-five teams in Michigan State and Purdue, positioning themselves for at least a chance to share the conference crown with the Spartans should Tom Izzo's squad drop its regular-season finale to Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon.

The game between Indiana and Ohio State on Friday night will also serve as a homecoming of sorts for Andrew Dakich. The Michigan graduate transfer played his high school basketball in Zionsville, Ind. His father Dan played his college basketball for Bob Knight at Indiana and also served as the interim head coach for the Hoosiers for seven games at the end of the 2007-08 season.

OHIO STATE NOT NAMED IN LATEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL RECRUITING BOMBSHELL REPORT FROM YAHOO SPORTS

Yahoo Sports released a lengthy report on Friday detailing possible recruiting violations for at least 20 division I men's basketball programs – Ohio State was not mentioned in the report.

The report mentions a number of premier programs including Duke, Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina, Xavier and features two Big Ten Schools: Michigan State and Maryland.

From Yahoo! Sports:

The documents tie some of the biggest names and programs in the sport to activity that appears to violate the NCAA’s amateurism rules. This could end up casting a pall over the NCAA tournament because of eligibility issues. There’s potential impermissible benefits and preferential treatment for players and families of players at Duke, North Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, Michigan State, USC, Alabama and a host of other schools. The documents link some of the sport’s biggest current stars – Michigan State’s Miles Bridges, Alabama’s Collin Sexton and Duke’s Wendell Carter – to specific potential extra benefits for either the athletes or their family members. The amounts tied to players in the case range from basic meals to tens of thousands of dollars.

This also adds another storyline as we head into the final weekend of regular season Big Ten play. With his eligibility in question, is there a chance Bridges will not play during Michigan State's road battle with Wisconsin as the Spartans try to wrap up the Big Ten title?

If that's the case, this weekend's race for the Big Ten crown just got a lot more interesting.

Report: Michigan State basketball star Miles Bridges' mom linked to FBI probe

Michigan State is tied to another major scandal, this time involving the FBI's probe into college basketball corruption.

And Miles Bridges is part of the focus.

Federal documents obtained by Yahoo! Sports link the MSU star's mother, Cynthia Bridges, to Christian Dawkins, the disgraced middle man for former NBA agent Andy Miller and his ASM Sports agency.

Dawkins, a Saginaw native, is one of 10 men the FBI charged in a sweeping investigation that uncovered fraud, bribery and corruption in college basketball in September, days before practice began for the 2017-18 season. The U.S. Attorney's Office charged Dawkins with three counts of wire fraud and one count of money-laundering conspiracy.

The connection to Bridges' mom, which doesn't seem as egregious as the FBI's other findings, was revealed in Dawkins' ASM expense report documents from May 3, 2016. The documents were seized by the FBI and obtained by Yahoo, and they included two items involving Cynthia Bridges. Those were:

* “Redwood Lodge. Lunch w/Miles Bridges Parents. $70.05.”

* “ATM Withdrawl: Miles Bridges mom advance. $400”

Also listed on Dawkins’ spreadsheets, according to Yahoo, were paid dinners with MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo.
