2016 tOSU Really Basic Defense Discussion

I'm good that we rotate everyone.. in fact I love that idea but this defense needs roles.

Example. Last year Bama had a run stopping defensive line and a pass rush defensive line it worked out very well for then. I'd love for us to do the same at every level of our defense if we could.

I'm tired of seeing 215 pound dudes taking on 300 pound lineman that needs to stop. With that I propose this look.

Running downs front 7

DE-Lewis
DT-Hill
DT-Hamilton
DE-Holmes or Bosa
OLB- Baker
ILB- Booker
ILB- kwon
OLB- Worley

Pass downs

DE- Lewis
DT-Bosa
DT-Holmes
DE- Hubbard

Backers being traditional.

Proposed front seven lineups that don't include Robert Landers are not good front seven lineups IMO.

1. That's 3 sideline obstruction calls in two weeks time. What's going on on the sidelines?

2. Those of you with more football sense than me, what did the defense adjust to stop the jet sweep and the interior runs in the second half? Looked like an entirely different team except for that 81 yard TD drive.

For the jet sweep, they stopped the CB from trailing all the way across field and instead rolled him back deep to safety and brought the safety down to maintain outside leverage. The inside run was just guys getting off blocks better.

Also, in the first half they were using the DLs aggressiveness against them. They'd allow them to penetrate upfield only to be blocked by a pulling guard or TE. Lots of trap blocks in the first half.
Thanks, explains the difference. Now, why the sideline interference calls? Granted the one that counted - and stopped what seemed like a good start for the offense - was purely accidental, but whay is something so rarely called suddenly hitting the Bucks?

It's definitely more of a point of emphasis this year with the refs, and the flagged moment was undeniable (you can't block the ref from signaling with your face, Coach). Where it was harsh was the previous game (IU?) where they were flagged without a warning.

There's always an assistant who is assigned to keep the head coach on a leash and reel him back in, but in previous years, they were allowed some latitude. This year they are a lot more flag happy.

Buckeye Breakdown: How OSU Countered the Wisconsin Jet Sweep

The Buckeye coaching staff made some important halftime adjustments versus Wisconsin on Saturday night after the defense gave up 313 yards of total offense in the first half, with many of those yards coming by way of the “Jet Sweep” to receiver Jazz Pea
