2016 tOSU Offense Discussion

There are no constraint plays. You'd like to think that after so many jet sweeps, they would fake it one time and hand the ball to Weber instead, after the box clears out, but no...

So glad Beck is gone.

Edit: and lining Weber up all the way outside. That is just blatantly telling the defense that he's not involved in the play...

What struck me most towards the end of the season, or.. as the season was winding down, is that it didn't seem to me that OSU had an offense game plan. It was as if they had a handful of plays they could run. "Hey, let's try this one" with no idea of how running that play might set up something else. Part and parcel to forcing the ball to Samuel. "Curtis is our guy, let's get him the ball til he breaks one" Which, to his credit, he often did.. despite his offensive game planners not making it easier for him through, you know... having a fucking game plan.

I've said it before. Hard if not impossible to unwind who was responsible for what. But what we do know is that the combination of Ed and Beck was a cluster. Beck is gone. Ed, I hope, will return to the Oline and keep a title but be nowhere near the play calling and minimized in game planning.

And we are supposed to believe that Urban trusted Herman to call plays and run the O but suddenly went hands on again when Herman left? I don't buy that. The offense has regressed as well as the QBs the past two years. We ran plays two years ago that have not been seen since. Dead and buried.

So that excuses Beck from basically not doing the job he was hired to do?

Okay.
Absolutely not, but it's taken a solid two years of ridiculousness for much urban criticism to form whatsoever.

Also, total up the amount of bile thrown at Ed and compare that with the anger hurled at Beck, despite not being the playcaller whatsoever this year. That's my point.

Both guys deserve some leeway (and deserved to be hired unlike Tim) but Beck has received a very disproportionate amount of blame for this.

I think there's a strong argument to be made that it took 2.5 years for that offense to round into form and for urban to trust him (that 4th and 2 call in the 2013 ccg was not Herman's).

I think he's hands on all the time. I think that's a lot more productive when he has a competent coordinator and he trusts him. I know it's disastrous when the staff has no clue or identity when they're deploying their playcalls. That was true for years on defense and it's true again now on offense.

Oh, they run the plays, but they'll probably run that one kind of thing ad nauseum , just like they drew it up on Tuesday. Screw reacting to what the defense is doing or keeping them on their toes.
