2016 SEC v. Big 10 Challenge

I like the idea, too. But I, too, don't see it happening.

I mentioned in another thread that it would be pretty cool to see them play one game at the SEC home sites at the begining of the season, and the next year play them at the Big Ten home sites at the end of the season. Put the opposing teams in the other teams' hostile weather environments.

Great idea for Florida games Zurp, as it can get unbelievably hot in August early September. But I doubt it's any hotter in Oxford or Fayetteville in September than it is in Ohio.

OOC games are great. I still have good memories of a trip to play USC in the early 80s. Ended up tied 19-19 if I remember right.

But it is all about tv and $$, and we make so much playing the little sisters at home that it is hard to get them to want to go somewhere for a home and home and give up the gate.

If I were putting money on those matchups, I'd go with: Ohio State, Purdue, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Indiana, LSU, Michigan State, Michigan, Northwestern, Illinois, Arkansas...

Honestly, I can't say that I've watched any of Purdue or Northwestern's games this season, so you may be dead on w/ those picks. And I think the Auburn/Michigan game would be a toss up.

But I think Georgia's too much for Illinois, especially at this point in the season. I know I wouldn't want LSU playing them, lol.

So for the sake of being as unbiased as possible, I could see 6-5 either way.

Won't happen for more than one reason, but I would love to see a BCS game in Happy Valley, Columbus, or Ann Arbor.. or you could do Soldier Field so the teams can go explore the city (like new orleans, phoneix, etc.)

At the same time, it CAN be very, very cold in Columbus or Ann Arbor in the first week of December. But other times, it might be 50 degrees or more. Whether its much of an advantage for the home teams in either case won't necessarily be decided in one round of this set-up.

And how many teams play in domes? Minnesota did up to now. I think they're building a new, outdoor stadium, and I can't think of anyone else who might play indoors. But any domed stadiums would negate the environment factor that I was aiming for.

I would have to agree with the 6-5, I would see it this way

Big Ten Winners (5) - tOSU, Indiana, Michigan St., TSUN and Wisconsin
SEC Winners (6) - Kentucky, Vandy (Minnesota is TERRIBLE), Tennessee,
LSU, South Carolina (Closest of them all) and Georgia

I think the Northwestern-South Carolina game would decide it, if NU's offense shows up Spurrier would be stumped at how to stop them. But if the team tOSU was up by a half hundred on by the half shows up, UGLY.

Humanitarian (Boise)
Emerald (San Francisco...no snow but can be pretty cold in Dec)
Meineke Car Care (Charlotte, N.C.)
AutoZone Liberty (Memphis)
Gaylord Hotels Music City (Nashville)
Chick-fil-A (Atlanta...gets pretty cold in Dec, 37 degrees right now)
International (Toronto, Canada...not sure if it's in a dome or not)

Why don't the Big Ten and SEC schedule REGULAR season games against each other?

With all the talk year in and year out over who is better, Big Ten or SEC...blah blah blah...why don't these two conferences schedule games against one another each year during the regular season? I think it's absolute crap that everyone from the SEC hates on us for having a "soft" out of conference schedule this year, but when was the last time a team like Florida played an out of conference game against a quality opponent OUTSIDE of the state of Florida? OSU just finished up a home/away with Texas, have USC on deck, followed by Miami, VT, Cal, and Oklahoma. It seems we have no problems getting out of conference games scheduled with the Pac 10, Big 12, and ACC, but the SEC is no where to be found (not since LSU in '88 to be exact in regular season!). If the SEC is so "tough" they would bring their teams up north and prove they can hang in winter! I know that scUM just recently played Vandy, and Penn St. has a home/away coming up with Alabama, but why no UGA, FL, LSU, Tenn, etc. vs. OSU, PSU, or scUM. I know the two conferences are guaranteed at least two bowl games against each other yearly, but those are always neutral sites and irrelevant of the point I'm trying to make here. Any other thoughts on this?

It has a lot to do with history. In the fifties and sixties the Big Ten refused to schedule the SEC in order to avoid taking our A-A athletes into hostile, segregated environments.

My guess is that, today, it has more to do with most SEC schools (Tenn being a notable exception) refusing to schedule marquee OOC opponents outside the South.
