Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

Do you think B Miller is planning to come back next year with the performance JB has had this year?
In theory he won't be back till Fall camp. There is plenty of doubt that Miller will ever be 100% again. He has a history of injuries going back to high school. Marvelous, special athlete that is just fragile. Drew Brees had this same injury/surgery and obviously recovered. But Brax is not Brees.
J.T. Barrett will be throwing in the Spring. But not running.
Cardale Jones could get a good jump in the QB competition.

I disagree. I think it will either won or lost on what is in between C Jones' ears. Or maybe what is or isn't in his pants. (Skid marks).
What year of eligibility is CJ in?

Just a couple of notes on Cardale Jones that you may or may not know:

  • Jones was a pro-stlye QB in high school. If you watch his HS highlights, they are all him throwing and not running.
  • Jones was ahead of JT on the depth chart until just a few days before Brax went down. Staff has said it was very close, but JT was just a little more efficient. Both were fully capable of running the offense (Although JT was running a limited playbook in the loss to VT).
  • One thing I noticed about Jones in the B1G championship compared to JT was that he was not afraid to throw into tight coverage. JT would not have attempted some of the throws he did. That may come back to bite him, but it also shows he trusts his receivers.
By the way, caught Finebaum interviewing Sims today on his radio show. Seems like a great young man. I liked it when he said he was "happy for" Cardale doing well as he could relate to seizing a chance that you thought you might never get. Hope we see a great battle... and the Bucks come out on top, of course.

My hope is that the coaches don't harp to the guys too much about how amazing Bama is. I don't want them to play a nervous game, I want them to feel like they own it the way they did against Whisky.

I've watched every Bama game this year. They are no powerhouse and will crumble if we come out swinging.
Crumble? Really? If there ever was a chance for us to crumble it would've been right after Sims threw his third pick versus Auburn and they went up by two scores halfway through the third quarter. Instead, we score five touchdowns on five straight possessions.

Bama is beatable. not nearly on the level they've been the last several years.

but like Bama always seems to do, they adapted.
they no longer physically beat you into submission. now they wait for you to make a mistake and beat yourself.

Yeah, this is why I think it all depends on which team comes out firing. I could see this game getting out of hand early for one team or the other. I don't see a 14-14 score going into halftime. I could be wrong, but something tells me this one will be decided early.

Ok. I recall a couple of years ago Norte Dame fans saying there was no way anybody could drive 80 yards down the field on their defense. Yet it happened three times. I know you guys are much better than they were but I'd caution you saying anything can or cannot, with 100% certainty, happen when Saban has three weeks to prepare. He is not 9-1 in championship games just by luck. The only thing I know for certain is that you cannot stop Cooper although it is possible to limit him.

We don't have to stop Cooper, all we have to do is rattle Sims.

I watched that game in Alabama, I believe. I did not think Notre Dame had a shot in hell to even keep it close. It played out about how I thought it would. That Alabama team was dominate. As much as you love your team, I'm sure you can agree that this year's team is nowhere near that one in terms of pretty much every facet of the game of football.
I'd agree. This team, however, is more battle tested and resilient than that team.

That much is true. Keep in mind I'm not claiming that we're going to come out and crush you guys, only that I think one team will jump out early and the game will be decided by which one piles it on first. For some reason, I'm going to be surprised if it's a tight game. Not sure why I feel that way, just a hunch.

Yes, crumble. We aren't giving up a two score lead with 3 INTs, I'd bet the house on that. I have not been impressed with Bama/Barn all year and it has zero to do with our playoff spot. You're welcome to search for my posts regarding either of them throughout the year. I just don't think they have the horses to keep up with this offense if it gets going early.

Bama is not going to crumble. Let's realize who we're dealing with here. One of the few teams that has as much, likely a bit more talent than us and a coach that is equal to or greater than Meyer. This is going to be a dogfight. We win if we play as well as we did against Wisconsin, but don't think for a second it's going to be some sort of blowout. Like Meyer already said, we have to be 100% on point to beat this team.

I agree with people who've said we can't play like they are better than us. We have to come out confident, hungry, and firing on all cylinders. Throw the ball downfield and punch them in the mouth without fear. Cannot play like scared kittens (Notre Dame). And knowing the guys on this team and Urban Meyer, I'm confident they will be ready.
