Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

What has OSU recruiting been like for the last four years compared to Bama? I hear you guys are young, is that true?

2011/2012 was a bit of a jumble due to the Tressel situation, but UFM came in and saved the 2012 class.

2013 and 2014 have been great classes (I don't know or care for the subjective rankings though so I couldn't give you the number) and quite a few of the big contributors for Ohio State this year are Freshmen, RS Freshmen, Sophs or RS Sophs....going into this season, especially post-Braxton injury, most everyone thought this team was more built for next year. Barrett's emergence has really changed perceptions and the future appears to be now.

When I was trying to google the answer, I found a few places that said it was expected that OSU would be more ready next year, so I thought that was the case.

The thinking prior to this season here in Alabama was that this year was a reloading year and next year would be a title hunt year, just like you guys.

We very well may get to do this all again next year!

You don't want to go down that road. Its not an intelligent way of dismissing stats because all stats have them. The runs happened so they are included, and are very significant to what the defense gave up. There was a back that had a very high ypc but he only had a few carries against you guys. Those are the type that can be more intelligently viewed as outliers, which is why I didn't include his #'s.

I don't think outlier means what you think it means.

I don't think outlier means what you think it means.

In most larger samplings of data, some data points will be further away from the sample mean than what is deemed reasonable. This can be due to incidental systematic error or flaws in the theory that generated an assumed family of probability distributions, or it may be that some observations are far from the center of the data. Outlier points can therefore indicate faulty data, erroneous procedures, or areas where a certain theory might not be valid. However, in large samples, a small number of outliers is to be expected (and not due to any anomalous condition). - Wiki

a statistical observation that is markedly different in value from the others of the sample- Meriam.

Hope this helps.

I am still trying to process the modern era thing...I swore when Archie and I were in school he wasn't wearing a leather helmet. I also think Mr Cooper would have found the 'assassin' a worthy opponent.

He'd probably be ejected though. Maybe that's what they mean? The millennial "participation award modern football"

Wisky provided zero threat in the passing game because Stave is a bad QB and their WRs aren't much of a help. This allowed your defense to stack the line and really focus on stuffing the run. It shouldn't be too surprising the defense did as well as it did.

So why couldn't anyone else, including LSU, stop him?
Mariota should be writing thank you letters to Ohio State Defense right now.

LSU progressed throughout the season as did Arkansas. They just got better and better. That (LSU) is a young team. If they had solid QB play they would be ridiculous. I heard an OSU QB was considering a transfer.

IDK what happened in the Big 10 Championship game. It was bizarre. I think the competition level in the Big 10 varies significantly. They sure did not find running room. I kept thinking "he should bounce that outside." OSU run D was legit.

I could replace those with Wisconsin and Illinois and there wouldn't be a difference.

You took that as a veiled shot at your sophistication? It's a Monty Python reference, man. Lighten up, Francis!

You arrogant British snob!

I said probably and they are a hated rival that beat us out for Leo Lewis and several other top defensive players. There is a ridiculous amount of talent on that "ole piss" team. Look that [Mark May] up. Then balk when someone speaks truth to you.

There's a "ridiculous amount of talent" on Michigan according to the circle jerk recruiting rankings, but they're still shit.

Hope this helps.

So explain how 2 runs in junk time that are statistical anomaly aren't outliers. If you're basing your claims on the ypa in junk time, you certainly do have a systemic error.
Those 2 fit the descriptions you posted to a T.

Well, I started to post in the Sugar Bowl mega thread only to read what a sh@t storm that has turned into. I am an Alabama fan. I have been to a few cities in Ohio. Cincy and Springfield. I live on the coast. Yes, we have a fringe element to our fan base but most of us are cordial college football fans that love our team, just like other fan bases.
Should be a great game with pros and cons on each side. I want to talk about the teams and the game. Coaches as well. Lets keep it civil and have a great discussion. Ask me an honest opinion and you will get an honest answer.
