Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

Right. Mark May played for Pitt and - so the story goes - he was upset that Ohio State beat em that bad. That was the point.

Watched that game and the Buckeyes could have easily scored 100 as they were scoring at will. Mark May said to himself, "this [Mark May] shall not stand as I don't have to put up w/this [Mark May]!"

Indeed, [Mark May] head was probably a tad upset! He should have been happy the Buckeyes showed mercy!

due to the defense not holding containment on the outside...that problem was virtually eliminated against Wisconsin. Good defense do that--learn from their mistakes and then adjust accordingly.

Wisky provided zero threat in the passing game because Stave is a bad QB and their WRs aren't much of a help. This allowed your defense to stack the line and really focus on stuffing the run. It shouldn't be too surprising the defense did as well as it did.

Wonder why LSU couldn't do that?

If that's so, it's a failure of leadership on Saban's part and a lack of maturity and focus on the players part.

They'll know they are in a game the moment they get punched in the mouth by Bennett and Bosa that's for damn sure.
So that escalated. I left a comment on like page 87 and now 112? It has nothing to do with leadership IMO it has everything to with these kids being 18-22 years old and being human. I know Saban is going to be dialed in but that doesn't mean his team will.

Bottom line is OSU has everything going it's way in regards to motivation and I won't even bother to list them all.

ctrl alt delete- You will lose If Bama' is preparing for OSU and then a little bit for the NC game because I can assure you Urban Meyer is 24/7 Bama'. Alabama isn't so good that you can show up being less prepared to win this game. For the record I have no doubt Alabama is NOT looking past this game and if they are good because it will show.

Do you really think Saban wants to confuse his guys between Oregon/FSU/and tOSU? All run different things giving his players different reads and assignments. God I hope you are right though...

If Saban's team is looking forward to Oregon/FSU and not Ohio State, that means he lost his locker room at the most inopportune time to do so. That is a failure of leadership. I do agree though, 18-22 year olds don't make the greatest decisions about when to listen and to whom.

I hope they're right too - please please please look forward to someone other than Ohio State.

You don't want to go down that road. Its not an intelligent way of dismissing stats because all stats have them. The runs happened so they are included, and are very significant to what the defense gave up. There was a back that had a very high ypc but he only had a few carries against you guys. Those are the type that can be more intelligently viewed as outliers, which is why I didn't include his #'s.
That is not dismissing the statistics, it is adding relevant information to the statistics. Obviously, you don't want to yield big yardage to an opposing running back, but if you are it is better to give up the bulk in two or three long runs while largely stopping the rest than to give up a consistent 6 to 7 yards per carry.

Believe me, Saban is pissed that he has to face jones instead of one of the other two. All Bama can hope to do with him with respect to gameplan is throw some exotic looks at him and hope he screws up by checking in to the wrong play. I think this is a huge advantage for OSU if cardale plays reasonably well. He doesn't have to be great.

so while you are enjoying your seat at the grown up table, please share your thoughts on why the super easy to defend, one dimensional Wisconsin offense was so easy for OSU to shut down but not so much for LSU.

Thanks
LSU progressed throughout the season as did Arkansas. They just got better and better. That (LSU) is a young team. If they had solid QB play they would be ridiculous. I heard an OSU QB was considering a transfer.

IDK what happened in the Big 10 Championship game. It was bizarre. I think the competition level in the Big 10 varies significantly. They sure did not find running room. I kept thinking "he should bounce that outside." OSU run D was legit.

Don't need to explain it. We aren't LSU or Wisconsin. Unlike Wisconsin we have a passing attack to go with our run game. That's all that's going to matter when we play you guys. Im not sitting here asking you to explain how a shitty Va Tech offense scored a season high 35 points on you. That one single performance isn't going to be all that relevant even if it is mind boggling.

He's coached to take what the defense gives him. If they play off then its lots of quick out passes. If they press then he will change his route pattern toward the weak spot on the field. Early on I see this game being more about our run game seeing if we can get consistent yardage and force the safeties to come up close. Once they do then we will try to burn them deep with White, Coop, Stewart, or Howard. We need to put the dline on their heels a bit and make them cover run before we think pass IMHO. We shall see how it plays out for the coaches though.

And then from the article posted...

The Crimson Tide is most dangerous when Cooper is getting the football in space. But Cooper is able to obtain that space because teams must commit to stopping the run. So as with the Ohio State offense, the first order of business for any defense is limiting the Crimson Tide run game and forcing Simms into must pass situations.

Yea its a good write up and I obviously agree.
