Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

And VT beat the B1G champs. It's safe to say both you guys and Mizzou took a dump on themselves once this season.
I won't speak to the Indiana/Missouri game. Actually, yes I will. The SEC East is fairly weak and Missouri is merely a decent team, but Indiana beating them was a fluke.

In the case of OSU/VT, I'm not sure OSU "took a dump" on themselves in that game. I think they were just a mediocre team at the beginning of the season due to the large number of new starters. They've gotten much better since and are now a good-to-very-good team.

I disagree, to an extent. OSU has a chance to improve the national image and reputation of the B1G. Doing so, you might attract one or two recruits that otherwise land at an SEC school. The same could be true for other members of your conference if they win their bowl games. Over the period of four or five years, having better players could result in the B1G getting the benefit of the doubt among the CFP committee.
I agree with tidefan to an extent on this. I'm not too concerned with the rest of the BigTen, but there is a perception out there about OSU that they're good to beat up on their conference, but can't handle the elite teams from other conferences. In particular elite teams from the SEC. Sure, we've got the '02 national championship game and a few others, but there are more recent games that feed the OSU-as-paper-tiger argument.

I think most reasonable people recognize that OSU is a consistently good-to-very-good team by any comparison point, and with a talent level comparable to that of the other top teams in the country, SEC or otherwise. But there are still those lingering doubts for many. And a game against the SEC kingpin is a significant opportunity to erase that.

Let's be realistic. We could win in a Wiscy-esque blowout and B1G would still get no "respect". Nor should it - Ohio State and MSU are currently the only teams in the conference that aren't shitting down their legs at every opportunity.
And SEC could lose all 3 of their BCS* games and still have CBS and ESPN's marketing teams shoveling shit down our throats polishing that turd.
In fact I seem to recall SEC lost both your BCS games last year and hasn't looked half as good as their financial backers have claimed all year.
"Beating 3 top-10 teams in a row"... Aggy, Auburn, LSU? :lol:
What morons put SCe and Aggy in the top-10 anyway?
And then there was the week where both CBS and ESPiN were saying, and I quote, "Arkansas is the hottest team in the nation right now"
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
This is why you don't get any respect when you start on your "SEC schedule" spiel... don't care. Not buying your PR circle jerk. This isn't Aggy, we're not going to drink from your jizz jar.

*or whatever we're calling them now

I disagree. Ohio State beat Oregon and Arky (when they were on the rise like Miss/Miss St this year)... tatgate is what screwed us.
Wiscy laying an egg in 3 Rose Bowls straight, including to a Mid Major (TCU) is what definitively sunk the conference's rep once and for all. Yea, there was talk when we lost 2 NCGs (one of which we never should've been in) ... but that was still in NC games.
The conference proved it can't do anything without Ohio State. But at the end of the BCS era, Ohio State was tied for the most BCS wins at 6 (still tied at 5 if you count vacated with USC and Florida).
Our rep is fine... the conference rep is sunk... but that's out of Ohio State's control.
