Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

Can we please treat our guests with respect? Some of the comments to them make "us" look like just what we are calling them. Give these guys a chance. For the most part they seem fine so far and I hate to see people driven off by ignorant comments. Some of us enjoy interacting with different fan bases and getting their perspective.
Not to mention some of our own alumni come from these states, including myself. I was born and raised in Alabama (I am proud of that fact) and came to Ohio State only after a series of events involving my Dad's job.

Start looking for another coach. After we stomp a mudhole in your buckeyes your coach will quit just he did at florida. Is'nt a buckeye a deer's nut?

Do you not think EVERYBODY tries to not let A Cooper beat them? How's that worked out? We are not that one dimensional. It's pick your poison with us. Your best bet is to scramble your QB and throw 40-50 yard prayers.

As you can see, it was not unearned.

To that point, when a troll stops by, snipe at them directly instead of blasting a shotgun towards the entire fanbase (even if that isn't the intent, it is often the result).

Regarding scheme, OSU defended Sparty by having Doran Grant shadow Tony Lippett all game. He largely shut him down, which is quite an accomplishment since Bosa had a quiet game and Connor Cook is a very good QB. I do not think anyone can truly stay with Amari but I think he'll do a good job of shadowing him. It will be interesting to see if they bracket Amari. That really isn't their style and I doubt they wish to make life easier on the Bama running game. I think you ask Blake Sims to beat you all game and to avoid turnovers. This OSU defense is a bit inconsistent but they do a nice job of capitalizing on turnover opportunities.

Sims is a tough kid mentally and physically. Throw 3 picks? No problem. Sims has a short memory and will not be easily rattled.

The key to this game is shut down the short easy throws to the flat and prevent Sims from getting comfortable in the pocket.

Shutting down the short easy throws to the flat is not the Buckeye's strong suit. Maybe it's me, but that always seemed to be open for opposing teams all year long.

It was something that also stood out to me when reading the links your Mod passed along to me. It seems to be a strong part of Bama's game this year.

Boundary Games
But the Penn State offense came back in the fourth quarter by attacking the boundary flat — a cover 4 week spot. The Nittany Lions had a measure of success running the football wide into the boundary. In the Buckeyes' cover 4, frontside force support comes both from the walkout linebacker and safety, who have natural leverage.
But to the boundary, force comes solely from the free safety. The Will linebacker must also flow to the football, but he has to first defend his gap and then get across the offensive tackle. Both Buckeye safeties remain a step slow in coming downhill against the run. But the problem is amplified to the boundary.

I still think that this is the second best matchup for Ohio State, and maybe the best depending on whether or not Florida State is actually good this year (TBD, but so far, no).

I know this is a famous talking head line, but I think this game is won in the trenches. If Ohio State controls the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball, it will be close. If they control it on both sides of the ball, they'll win. The run defense was great against Gordon. Great to the point that I wonder how good Wisconsin really was. 400 yards is no fluke, but I have my doubts. Containing Alabama's running game and forcing Sims to make places without Cooper is the key on defense. Offensively I'd say play aggressively but limit turnovers.

Nobody thought Ohio State would be here. Play with nothing to lose and we'll see what happens.

Do you see Lane exploring other options over the break?

Belongs in a different thread, but...

Hmmm...Colin Cowherd claiming on his show that M*ch*g*n is getting someone with both pro & college experience. Claims he can't "burn his source" by revealing it yet but that he swears he isn't just trolling for the attention.

Has Kiffy's name been kicked around for tsun?

My family hails from the backwood swamps of Alabama. My cousin Bubba played for the Tide. But my family attended THE Ohio State University.

Go Bucks. The Tide must be denied.
