Game Thread 2015 National Championship Game: (2) Oregon vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 12th @ 8:30p ET, ESPN

I figured you were. I root for Auburn unless they are playing Bama. Ideally, I would like the Iron Bowl to be a battle between two undefeated teams every year. It's what I used to have to rely on to get a "playoff feel" for college football. That's why I say last year's championship is the most well earned of all time. No other team had to go through a playoff.
We used to have something similar with scUM, but...

I'd castrate myself with a power sander before I'd ever root for those fuckers.

Agreed. Maybe not the power sander part, but I would never root for scUM in anything. Not even trampoline.

Did you even know that trampoline was (or used to be) an NCAA sport?

Did you know that scUM has more national championships in trampoline (2) than in football (1) over the past 65 years? No really, they do. LINK

Why is the National Championship game thread talking about whether we root for Michigan?

I tend to root for Michigan when they play Penn State, as long as they win through some hilarity of suckiness. Extra credit if they can get the cult to whine about the referines at the same time. Last year's game may have been the best ever: neither team looked like a real football team, and Penn State fans found an obscure camera angle to show that the referee who was right there looking at the play (specifically, the line of scrimmage) couldn't see as well as the camera on the other side of the field and maybe 50 degrees off the line of scrimmage. The year before was pretty good - great mistakes by both teams, a referee tried to call a completed catch "incomplete" for being out of bounds (only to be overturned by the replay booth), but Penn State came away with the win.

I love it because Penn State SAYS they're all about honor and "playing the right way" and all that, but what they really want is to win the game. (Hence, Paterno's 409 was so important to them.) Michigan, on the other hand, say that they just want to win (hence, the reason they always bring up their most wins all-time thing), but I get the feeling that they really just want to be a good team, again. I think they'd be almost as embarrassed if they had beat Appy State off that field goal, or if they beat Toledo in overtime the next year. Their fans hate that they need 3 overtimes to beat Illinois, or a last-second field goal to beat Northwestern.

Don't care about Duke basketball one way or the other but "they" do have an Ohio State connection as Couch K played for Bobby Knight at Army. I digress.

Earlier in this thread IIRC said I was very, very, very, very happy the Buckeyes beat the Ducks. I'm still pretty damn happy!

Coach K also has a LeBron connection ie the last (2) summer Olympics.

carry on

So, game was on ESPN last night. Only caught second half. It was one of those abbreviated games. Worst telecast of it's type I've ever seen. There were points where they literally showed one play and then cut to commercial. Three commercials... and other points where they showed three plays in a row because football... then three more commercials. I'm at my sis-in-law's house. Had it been mine I would have just watched the game on my DVR if I wanted to watch it. Guess it was better than nothing, but it was just barely better than nothing. Better coverage on YouTube.
