I don't get it. I remember hearing a few years ago that icing the kicker actually results in more FGs made. I've never actually seen icing the kicker work, I've seen him miss the first/make the second several times though.

I've seen him make the first / miss the second. That doesn't mean that it "worked", though. That's like saying that this rock keeps tigers away. (No, you may not buy my rock.)

Is there anything against "simulating" a time-out? I think the defense should have a linebacker standing there, like, he's ready to call a time-out, but he doesn't call it. Get the kicker to notice him, and get it in his head - "will he call a time-out? What's he waiting for?"

I like that idea. Make him think you're going to call it. Right before the snap have a backer or two noticeably get out of position and walk toward the sideline like he is going to call timeout. That is freaking genius.
