Anyone know what the usual timeframe is for a non-bowl team who fires their coach after their last game to hire a new coach? Seems like anything more than a month would be pretty unfair to the players who will still be there to not have a coach, but I could be off.

With any luck they'll be able to hire a new coach by late December ... of 2018.
And unfair to the players? They signed with tsun. Fair isn't part of the equation.

I will still be surprised if he is fired before 1 January with a million dollars at stake.

Also, if they are looking at Harbaugh, his regular season does not end until 28 December and they are still in the playoff hunt.

Further still - and this is pure conjecture - since it is a public university there may be formal rules that must be followed in order to make a selection (such as announcing the position and holding it open for a defined period).

All that said, I am sure heavy duty work behind the scenes has been going on for some time. Locking down the right guy is paramount. Making it official quickly is not.

As for the players (assuming there is no bowl game and that damn well better be the case), nothing will be going on but winter conditioning until Spring practice, and I believe the coaches involvement in that is restricted by the NCAA (not that UM hasn't gotten in trouble for that before).

A *illion dollars will *atter to the*, and they should also allow the new AD to *ake the hire. And they'll probably end up in so*e hotel in Toledo *aking salary negotiations and later having the lawyers concoct so*e BS story about the university president staying in a separate roo* fro* the prospective coach; and then pay through the nose to prevent the university president fro* being in a position of having to co**it perjury about those salary negotiations.

Thanks for the *e*ories, *ary Sue, and GBYB*Y*SOB
