2014 TSUN Shenanigans and Arguments

Mgoblog is going all-in with Harbaugh in a post from this afternoon.

http://mgoblog.com/content/searchbits-xv-machinations
Anyway: Ross pursuing Harbaugh would be tricky if Ross wants to get into all the good parties when he comes back to Ann Arbor. If Harbaugh does turn down a generous Michigan offer because he wants to stay in the NFL and that becomes public—probably because Michigan hires someone else—then Harbaugh could end up with the Dolphins without making Ross look that bad. Anything else and not so much. Steve Lorenz reports that Ross gave his word he would not chase Harbaugh to "more than one figure" in the Michigan community.
Fuck Ross. If he undermines the phins ability to compete in the nfl for the sake of tsun i might finally stop rooting for them (been a fan since the early 80s when i was a kid). What I see happening is hair all will play scum for leverage w/ the jests and spend the next decade kicking miami and ross's asses.

But it would have been poor taste to start an official coaching search with Hoke still in place.

I do agree with you..... Quick follow up question: On the poor-taste-o-meter, would doing something like this rank higher than sending a kid back out on the field after he suffered an obvious concussion and then lie about it later saying he had nothing more than an ankle injury??

I actually think this does enter the minds of potential candidates. A huge part of that job is being able to beat the Buckeyes fairly regularly. If the new coach can't do that, he could be fired pretty quickly. If you are a candidate for that position and already have a decent job, I think you are absolutely looking at Urban Meyer and the pool of talent he is building up and considering whether it is worth taking a job where you could very easily end up getting your ass kicked by your main rival every year.

In other words, I think the presence of Urban is going to make their coaching search more difficult.

Others who follow recruiting closer than I do may agree with you, but I don't think it's been a lack of talent at Michigan and I don't think it's going to be a lack next year - my reasoning is that from the mid 80's through the early 2000s Michigan consistently put a much better QB on the field than did the Buckeyes. Talent wise Henne and Smith were about even with Smith getting the edge in game breaking running skills while Henne had a slight edge in passing skills. However, from Smith on Ohio State has consistently had the better QB on the field including 2011 - had Miller been able to work with Posey all season I don't believe the Bucks lose that game in AA.

Michigan has gotten the athletes in, but they have not done as much in improving their talent and they have been downright lost at QB since Henne's departure.

They have talent. Hoke and his staff were just AWFUL at developing it. However, the QB position could be a trainwreck. Anybody that's watched Suga Shane, and that includes people that have access to practices, have said he was clearly overrated in the recruiting process. They may end up turning to true freshman Alex Manzone next year, so that's a total wildcard.

They may have talent, but do they have true impact players? Where is their Joey Bosa? Or Michael Bennett? Or Jalin Marshall? Or Ezekiel Elliott? Or Darron Lee? Does Michigan have players who can make game-changing plays? Do they have any budding superstars like Jalyn Holmes or Raekwon McMillan or Eli Apple? Maybe Jabrill Peppers?

In my mind, Hoke was recruiting like it's still 1978, like speed and athleticism don't matter, like being a "football player" is enough to get the job done. It isn't.

Not sure Hoke is the only one guilty of this crime. IMO, this is precisely why they B1G's football reputation has slipped so dramatically in recent years.

To further my point about Hoke's recruiting, here's a link to the ESPN Freshman All Big Ten Team.

The Buckeyes had seven members - QB J.T. Barrett, RB Curtis Samuel, RB/WR Jalin Marshall, OL Billy Price, LB Darron Lee, LB Raekwon McMillan, and CB Eli Apple

Michigan had one: OL Mason Cole

Adam Rittenberg@ESPNRittenberg
RT @CFBHeather: Who are the Heisman hopefuls for 2015? (Sorry, @OhioStAthletics they can't all be your backup QBs)... http://es.pn/16opwqi

Well, yeah. As previously stated, QB is a potential black hole. But they have a number of highly rated RBs, chances are with proper coaching one of them could be an impact player. And I have a hard time believing all of those highly rated OL recruits are busts. They certainly lack playmakers at WR...which they have since Manningham smoked his way to the NFL.

My point is, they should be in good enough shape to, with the right coach, win 8-9 games next year and beyond. Unless the QB position is an absolute disaster...which it has the potential to be. But, if they can get a decent OL coach, they have the raw talent and stable of backs to be decent enough.

Of course, watch them go out and hire another Brady Hoke. Then just throw out everything I just said and continue pointing and laughing.

The funniest argument I've seen from ttun fans for why they are getting Harbaugh is that they would give him a lot of money. Do they realize he works in The National Football League now and not The Pioneer Football League? I'm pretty sure money isn't going to be a problem when he's coaching the New York Jets next year.
