2014 TSUN Shenanigans and Arguments

Anyone else think the phrase "So I take it a blowjob is out of the question" is often used during this coaching search of theirs?

You would really think of saying that to a man who looks like this?????

They gotta "roll the dice" on some young but exciting guy.
Like a Scott Frost or Kliff Kingsbury. Or Whittingham.
Whittingham isn't that young...55 years old, 11 years at Utah.

I still think they should go after Gundy. He's done pretty well at oOSU, is still relatively young. Has fielded some explosive offenses, and held his own in the Big 12 and against OU. He's done it with lesser recruits, so I think he'd do reasonably well with scum's recruiting resources. Plus, word is he and Pickens' relationship has soured. He wouldn't be a homerun hire, but would be quite solid. Though one concern would be that his success coincided with Tejas falling off of a cliff...

I guess it depends how much they prefer to "cash in" now and risk flaming out in 3-4 years vs. find somewhere they can be successful and have their pick of better HC jobs as they open up.
In some ways I'd view CSU as a better destination for a coordinator right now (provided they can get a contract with a lower buyout clause) ... MWC is kind of a sweet spot for recruiting. Not a lot of competition from P5 programs, and even then most of them are focused on Cali and Texas. It's not over-exploited like MAC trying to recruit Midwest when half the B1G will go dumpster diving for any warm body they can find.
CSU has a good amount of returning players from a fairly successful team but even so, expectations are tempered.
There's more opportunity to learn on-the-job, mistakes can be made and learned from that would be under the microscope at a high profile job with (unreasonable) expectations like TTUN. The HC can have a more direct hands-on approach with Defense or Offense - and besides you really only need one or the other to be good for decent success in MWC. And if you do have success, you're guaranteed the better jobs will search you out and pay competitively.

Exactly what they can't afford to do imo.

Being a HC at a major school like scUM requires experience. I said the same thing about fat Charlie when he was all hot shit and headed to ND. Lou Holtz said that when he took over at ND he asked Ara Parseghian about the job and Ara told him that he need every bit of the experience and knowledge he picked up as Northwesterns coach to be ready for the job. Holtz said he found this to be true.

Also look at Rich Rod. Success at WVU and Arizona, not so much at scUM. It a different animal (coaching at a major school). The best bet is a guy with HC experience and success. Some of that experience better be knowing how to shine on boosters/alumni.

Sure they may catch lightning in a bottle with some coordinator but the odds are against them and they can't afford another miss.

Here's Athlon's ranking of all 128 FBS coaches:

Not surprisingly, Saban is #1 and Meyer is #2; Hoke was #38. So who should Michigan hire? It's tough to find a guy who has head coaching experience and success and is willing to leave his successful gig for a dumpster fire like Michigan.

Pat Fitzgerald at #18? Hmmm.
Think he'd leave Northwestern for a large pay raise in AA? 8D

Fitz might be able to work out a deal with Northwestern. It might be illegal, but I'm thinking of something like this:
"I'm going to Ann Arbor to coach there. I'll be back in 3 years, though. And I'm going to get paid way more there for 3 years (including my buyout), so when I come back in 3 years, you won't have to pay me. That's the deal: I'll work for free if you give me my job back in 3 years."
