Kyle Rowland ‏@KyleRowland
Kerry Coombs just ran an impressive 40. Didn't win, but not bad for a gray-haired fellow.

Video of Coombs' run lol looked like he had them till the end.

@Kevin_Noon
Raekwon McMillan @Kwon_daTRUTH was not going to let any of the students beat him in the 40 today. #Buckeyes

Here's part of Phil Steele's Top 25 - $-ESPN

1: FSU
2: Alabama
3: Oregon
4: Auburn
5: Oklahoma
6: Ohio State
8: Sparty
17: Wisconsin

8 of the top 25 are SEC teams compared to only 3 teams for the B1G. Oh and 5 of the teams are in the Pac-12. Yikes.

Urban Meyer looking to overhaul Ohio State's culture this spring

140409123514-urban-meyer-topp-single-image-cut.jpg

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Tim Kight performed a near-miracle in 2013. He made Urban Meyer stop and chat at a party.

Kight, a Columbus-based consultant who specializes in leadership training, was attending a fundraiser at Meyer's home when the notoriously small-talk averse Ohio State coach walked past. Meyer stopped to say hello. Kight introduced himself and explained what he does. Suddenly, Meyer was intrigued. So intrigued that Meyer brought in Kight and his son to work with Ohio State players last year and with Buckeyes coaches this spring. "I joke around that [Kight] doesn't drink beer often, but he drinks Dos Equis," Meyer said.

At 6 a.m. on Monday, Kight stood before Ohio State's coaching staff at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and explained for 90 minutes how it must prove its competence to players on a daily basis. The lecture was the fifth in a series of six that the coaches will hear this spring as Meyer tries to overhaul his team's culture. In Kight's buzzword-heavy program, culture may be the most critical one. Meyer has a winning program (24-2 in two seasons at Ohio State), but he isn't sure his Buckeyes had a winning culture for the past two years.

Meyer points to his team's pass defense as an example. The Buckeyes were horrible against the pass in 2013, allowing 268 yards a game through the air. That ranked 11th in the Big Ten and 110th nationally. Meyer and his coaches wanted to improve coverage, and they took steps to correct deficiencies. But Meyer isn't sure everyone was preaching the same message. "I've made mistakes in trying to attack behaviors," Meyer said. "For example, we're not playing hard on defense. You can try to fix behavior, but it's unsustainable unless you fix the culture. I believe in that from the bottom of my gut."

Some observations from Ohio State's nearly 2 1/2 hour practice tonight ...
- First-team OL was Decker at LT, Underwood at LG, Boren at C, Elflein at RG and Baldwin at RT. Meyer said only Decker and Elflein in stone.
- Darron Lee was No. 1 Sam LB and made one of best plays of practice, tackling Dontre Wilson on end around just shy of end zone in goal line.
- Wilson, though, looked really comfortable at receiver and had a 50-plus yard reception despite double coverage. Cardale Jones threw it.
- Buckeyes, as always, look great physically. DL could be special. Safeties, sans Vonn Bell, are long and fast.
- Freshman LB Raekwon McMillan is a beast. Hard to believe he's a freshman, Lot to learn still, but he's a specimen.
- Ezekiel Elliott is pretty solid at No. 1 RB. Warren Ball had 70+-yard run today and Brionte Dunn & Curtis Samuel look good there too.
- Takeaway: Buckeyes very young in several key spots, especially offense, but have loads of athletes. And some guy named Braxton will be back.

Notes:
- Curtis Samuel, Raekwon McMillan, Johnnie Dixon, Sean Nuernberger all in rotation
- Wants to see great crowd on Saturday
- Will throw the ball a lot & wants to see who can make a play in front of a crowd
- RB Rotation: EzE, Dunn, Rod Smith (didn't practice again today; academics), Samuel, Ball
- Cardale completely different player. "14 going on 22". Continuing to grow up.
- Draft tomorrow, but will have "good against good" especially with the lines
- Coaches are Coombs & Drayton
- 10 min quarters, no returns in kicking game
- Kyle Clinton has edge as Kicker, but very close
- Has seen improvement with pass defense
- Corey Smith & Michael Thomas have made improvements & are in rotation
- Nick Vannett one of most improved players
- Upset that Marcus Baugh was interviewed at Student Practice. Still "one foot in, one foot out".
- Loved Student Practice
- Eli Apple had another good practice today. Adds depth.
- Chris Worley had chance to get black stripe off today, but lost in circle drill. Now has to wait until August
