I don't think it's fair to say that it's turning into what I said it wouldn't. Our philosophy hasn't changed; indeed we emphasize drives less and less every year, and are back to a somewhat aggressive stance towards modernization despite that.

I don't see any harm in people discussing an idea like that. Would I implement something like that? No. I'm deeply appreciative to the donors -- it's not just a line when I say that the site is online because of them. Our ad revenue continues to drop, our expenses continue to climb, so drives continue to be a simple economic reality because I refuse to open up to the sort of bigger, louder, more in-your-face styles of advertisement that actually make money. So when donors also try to encourage others to earn banners (and remember, I've given a banner for a 3 cent donation before), they're doing that out of their own passion for the site, and I deeply appreciate that too. There's no built-in pressure to do so, though.

So nothing has changed, really. No special privs for donors, beyond banners and my (as above) sincere and deep appreciation. No change in philosophy or style. A vigilance against commercialization, and the maintenance (one hopes) of a community where all reasonable fans are not only welcome, but encouraged to play a role in the continual shaping and planning.

Programs, users; we're all the same here.

Ok all.

Thee is something I want to do, with the rest of BP, to help hit the annual donation goal. Namely, I am going to auction off OSU memorabilia items directly through the site. Proceeds go to BP and should be paid directly to Jo. Once I get the payment received notice from her I will ship.

A note on shipping; some of this stuff is small and easy, some of it not so much. Please help us in this regard and consider local pick up (Anyone who goes up and down the I95 corridor) or maybe delivery at a game ( right now I think I am going to Navy, Maryland and The Game). However we get it done just please remember that shipping isn't free and can eat into the donation pretty heavily if we don't allow for it.

That said, please keep checking back in and see what I put up. Some of it will be really cool and hard to find, some will be just a neat thing that will be a good excuse to give some money to the community we all know and love.

Here is how it will work and if any Mod wants to change it just speak up (not that I need to give you elitist pr**s permission or anything).
  • I will create a separate thread for each item.
  • It is a silent auction format meaning you place your bid by simply posting in the thread the amount you will pay.
  • You can bid as often as you like.
  • I will keep it open from Sunday to Sunday. Bidding closes at 9pm eastern time.
  • I will package it and get the actual shipping cost. I am asking the winning bidder to pay that in addition to the mount bid for the item for the reasons listed above.
If anyone sees an obvious flaw in my normally flawless logic here, please say something. All I want is for this to make BP some money and for the BP members who participate to be completely satisfied with what they bought.

So check the listings/threads I create for this every Sunday and don't be stingy, remember it's for a great cause.

Yep -click on the donate link at the top. At $4,430 with a goal of $8,022 -- $3,592 short right now.

So round it to 3,600 short, 18 weeks left in the year.....We need to ensure we are bringing in $200 a week from here on out.

If we can do that on top of the normal donations people make then we'll be in good shape.
