2014 Playoffs...tOSU In Them?

Who do you see in CFB Div. 1 first ever playoffs? Do you see tOSU there?

Without a doubt I see tOSU there. Urban Meyer is a great coach and recruiter. We all know that. He also won't take the B1GCG loss again next year.

If I may, it was defense that hurt last year and from what I've read on these forums is that the defense will be better. So cross that out.

Offense wasn't a problem and one of the greatest athletes ever in Miller is coming back so at WORST it will still be great.

I see only two stumbling blocks- @Uni-Park and in East Lansing. Still see those as wins, nonetheless. No chance the Buckeyes lose to scUM at home. So forget about that one.

I'm going all in and rooting for the Buckeyes. (USC won't be there we still have the schollie reductions.) FSU will be tough, they have good players and tremendous depth.

I saw an article having Florida in as 25-1 odds? Wow. They are terribad! They lost to Georgia-Southern (I know, Florida had 11 players out because of injury but GS had 19 out so that's no excuse.) Since Muschamp has been at Florida their offense has been no better than 100th in the nation.

I'm excited about the playoffs, even though I think it should be 6 teams but it's better than the BCS, IMO.
 
Really early to narrow it to 4. I think it'd be easier to break down conference by conference and go from there.

PAC: Stanford/USC
Big XII: Oklahoma/Baylor/Texas
B1G: Michigan State/Ohio State
SEC: LSU/Alabama/Auburn
ACC: FSU/Clemson

If I chose between those, I'd say Stanford, LSU, Ohio State (homer pick, of course), and whoever finishes ranked higher among the Big XII and ACC.

Yea, it's definitely early to make informed decisions accurately.

I don't even look at the rest of the PAC teams and what they're bringing until a month or so before the first game, so I agree.

I figured, it's the off-season and with the implementation of the playoffs it would be fun to see what everyone thought with it being a whole new system.

It wasn't disrespectful - just seems a bit early. who knows how the new playoff format will shake out - with ESPiN having a monetary interest in two of the BCS leagues and how the hype machines will pump up teams like Oregon/fUCLA/Auburn/FSU/etc, who knows what will happen.

First off, welcome to our board. Always nice to have outside opinion here and make yourself at home. I'm sure you will find this site rather hospitable overall and the posters here are very well informed. Second, interesting conversation that I haven't thought of yet since I am so used to guessing the NCG in BCS mode. I will start off with our odds.

We have Miller coming back, a stable of really good RBs with a potentially elite one in Ezekiel Elliott, and a ton of talent (though unproven) at receiver and we have made huge upgrades in the speed department in the last two recruiting classes. I think we might actually be better in the skill position areas and hopefully Braxton improves on his reads and accuracy. However, we are replacing one of the best offensive lines we've ever had, which will be difficult. The talent is there I think and our OL coach is fantastic, but getting some cohesion will be the key. Plus we lost Carlos Hyde, who was an amazing player and Philly Brown was a darn good receiver and leader.

On defense, it really is a huge wildcard. Our defensive line will be outstanding. Joey Bosa is All-American material as a sophomore and Adolphus Washington and Noah Spence are very good on the ends with him. Also, Jamal Marcus is emerged as a guy that can really play. Inside, Michael Bennett is near elite and we have lots of talent that will rotate in with him in Schutt, Hill, Carter, and maybe Washington slides down some. At LB, I have zero confidence. Shazier left early for the draft and our (imo) best option at LB to be a star in Mike Mitchell is transferring. The two returning guys have been lackluster and we had an amazing LB class but it seems we will have to lean on them early. The defensive backfield should be improved if our guys live up to half their talent. We've had the best DB class two years running and the talent abounds there. Overall, I feel the defense will be improved somewhat but to what extent remains to be seen.

As for other teams, you have to think that FSU is going to be one of the four and Bama/Auburn look poised as ever to get things done. I think Oklahoma will be a big contender in the Big 12 and my pick in the Pac 12 would have to be Oregon with Mariota coming back. Other contenders at this point that stand out are Stanford, LSU, UCLA, and Notre Dame.

I thought Hyde and Shazier were on for next year.

That's why I asked though, I want to be a part of this forum and can't be without asking questions like this in the beginning.

Ohio State fans are, IMO and in general, the most informative and knowledgable fan base there is in college football. I'm not saying this because I'm on a Buckeye forum by any means. I honestly believe that.

This was a great post that puts a lot in perspective. Yea, it's early and what we all think now may change what we think later but it's ok to throw out there what we think might happen next year. Thank you so much for such a well thought out and full reply.
