2014 OSU Baseball discussion

Great pitching today, these Freshmen are really stepping up. Happy 1 run was enough, was very cold today with the wind blowing in but the 9th inning was ugly. Bucks had 1st & 2nd no outs and had a strike em out throw em out. Can't have that. Have to get that bunt down fair. Then B-9th Dawson loses the ball in the sun. I was for sure ready to come out of my seat. Lakins is a beast tho, think Dempsey got bumped from the closer role. Good win

went to Friday's game and Riga really had to battle but I was impressed he got them into the 7th. Dawson looked lost at the plate and Bosiokovic stranded a small village on the base paths. Really liked what I saw from Porter and Kuhn and of course Dezse. Dempsey struggled again out of the bullpen after we scratched our way back to a tie in the 9th. I have to echo Buckeyedrew above that he may be unseated as the closer with how Lakins is throwing. We just missed too many opportunities and sparty didn't. so happy they rallied to win the series. Go Bucks!

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After jumping ahead 6-0 through two innings, the Ohio State baseball team topped Xavier, 10-3, Wednesday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 13-6 on the season while the Musketeers fall to 11-7.
After a scoreless five-pitch top of the first inning by Ohio State starter Tanner Tully, the Buckeyes wasted no time getting on the board against Xavier starter Trent Astle in the bottom of the frame when Troy Kuhn led off the inning with a solo shot to left-center, his team-high fourth of the season, for the 1-0 lead. Jacob Bosiokovic followed with a single through the left side and a walk to Pat Porter put runners on first and second with nobody out. After Ryan Leffel fouled out for the first out of the inning, an error on a failed pickoff by Xavier catcher Daniel Rizzie allowed both runners to move up a base before Ronnie Dawson followed with an RBI groundout to score Bosiokovic and Zach Ratcliff lined a single to left to score Porter for the 3-0 Buckeye lead.....

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team dropped its Big Ten opener to Michigan State, 7-6, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth by Ryan Krill Friday night at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 13-7, 0-1 in the Big Ten, while the Spartans improve to 10-8, 1-0 in conference play.
"We didn’t pitch the ball great tonight but the story of the game from our standpoint is missed opportunities at the plate,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “It’s a tough loss after fighting to get back in the ball game but we’ll be back at it tomorrow.”
After a scoreless top of the first, Michigan State got on the board against Ohio State starter Ryan Riga in the bottom of the frame when Cam Gibson led off the inning with a solo home run to right, his first of the season, for the 1-0 lead.
The Buckeyes threatened against Michigan State starter Mick VanVossen in the top of the third. A single by Connor Sabanosh and walks to Tim Wetzel and Troy Kuhn loaded the bases with one down. VanVossen then hit Pat Porter to score Sabanosh to tie the game at 1-1....

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team evened its series with Michigan State with a 6-2 win Saturday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 14-7 on the year, 1-1 in Big Ten play, while the Spartans fall to 10-9, also 1-1 in conference play.
“We received a really good pitching performance today,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “Outside of the one swing, we pitched a shutout. We got six strong innings from Greg Greve and Jake Post was able to come in and give us three more to finish the ballgame so that was just what we needed.”
Nobody threatened until the Spartans did against Greve in the bottom of the third. With two down, a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases but Greve was able to get Blaise Salter to fly out to center to end the inning and keep the game scoreless.....

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team edged Michigan State, 1-0, to win its Big Ten-opening series on a cold Sunday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 15-7 on the season, 2-1 in the Big Ten, while the Spartans fall to 10-10, 1-2 in conference play.
“There was nothing fun about hitting today and our two rookie pitchers really stepped up,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “Playing a one-run game makes everything matter. Every little thing came into play in a one-run game and the fact that we only walked one batter and didn’t commit any errors was big for us.”
Ohio State threatened against Michigan State starter Cam Vieaux in the top of the third. The Buckeyes had runners on second and third with two down after a single by Nick Sergakis, an error on a pop up by Tim Wetzel and a wild pitch but Spartan shortstop Ryan Richardson made a great diving stop on a ground ball by Ryan Leffel to end the inning and keep the game scoreless....

Dawson really has to learn the zone better, sure likes the high fastball out of the zone. But what do I know about hitting. Wish Bosio was more aggressive later in the count but at this point in his career he's already molded as a hitter. Getting Dezse going better will be a big key imo. Really like what Post did Saturday closing the last 3 innings. Nice option out of the pen. Big wkend series coming up with IU. I'll tell you 1 thing, the Bucks will see a lot of lefties this yr. IU starting roation is 2/3rd lefty too with Hart & DeNato

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team shut out Marshall, 4-0, Wednesday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 16-7 on the season while the Thundering Herd falls to 6-16.
“It wasn’t ideal baseball weather but we stayed on task and kept things rolling,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “That was the one reason I really wanted to play this week. We were coming off a good weekend and had won seven of eight and I really didn’t want to take four days off. It was a little cold today but it was good to get back out there and compete.”
The Buckeyes got on the board in the bottom of the second against Marshall starter Alex Thackston. A single by Josh Dezse and a walk to Ronnie Dawson led off the inning before a wild pitch moved both runners up. After Zach Ratcliff struck out for the first out of the inning, Troy Montgomery singled to right to score Dezse for the first run of the game and chase Thackston from the game. Clint Wilson came on in relief to retire Nick Sergakis on a foul out but Dawson then came home when Montgomery got caught in a pickle between first and second to push the Ohio State lead to 2-0.....
